Did a quick grocery run and made pancakes at home this morning.  Carbs be darned!  And Renaissance choral music in the background.  What could be better?

Good morning!

Slept fitfully last night and so I've been up for quite a while. It's going to be hot again today, so once again, I'm glad I'll be inside doing my usual Sunday chores.

Since I was up so early this morning, I went ahead and watched WHY DIDN'T THEY ASK EVANS? I don't think Jane Marple fits as felicitiously into this non-Marple mystery as she did into the non-Marple MURDER IS EASY, and the denouement is awkward and kind of unconvincing. This was by far my least favorite of the four Marple films though the cast is filled with good actors. Natalie Dormer (who was Anne Bolyn in THE TUDORS) plays an unhappy wife and Sean Biggerstaff who was the captain of the Quidish team in the first two HARRY POTTER films is the playboy who works with Miss Marple in solving the crime. Samantha Bond (who played Miss Moneypenner in the Brosnan Bond films) is the troubled mother of two quirky kids who are having a hard time getting over the suspicious death of their father.

Having already seen THEY DO IT WITH MIRRORS on PBS, I went ahead and wrote up the remainder of the review on the set, though it can't be posted until I actually view the DVD of it to make sure the video and audio quality judgments are honest appraisals of what I've seen and heard on the disc.

DR Jose:

Re your question last night, the remake was not called WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, so in answer to your question, I watched what I said I watched.

I haven't slept (or very many hours) for the last few nights.  I'm now at athat insomnia panic stage of being afraid I'll never sleep again!!   ::) >:( :o :( ???

If you can have a fitful night, can you have a fitless night?

It is 8:00 a.m. and it is already hot in the house apartment.  This is going to be a miserable week - weatherwise.

POSSIBLE T.O.D.

It has been said that, “Everyone has at least one good book in them."
Have you ever thought about writing a book (fiction, non-fiction, autobiography), what kind of book would it be, and have you thought of a possible title?

Good morning, all! Sadly, it wasn't too good a night; I was up and down all night with leg pains and little sleep. At some time today, Marnie, who acting as librarian for the LOC Life Begins At 8:40 orchesdtra reading in August, will stop by and pick up some proofed scores, run down to the offfice and bring me back a new batch. Until then, I will work on Moross' Gentlemen Be Seated.  I alerted the Loesser office about my health so there's no deadline on the last act of The Most Happy Fella but it would be nice this week to get some edits in on that as well this week.

I will spend part of today watching the second DVD of THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER, and then I may drag out either the Erroll Flynn version or CROSSED SWORDS with Oliver Reed and Mark Lester.

I have no more news except that the Vicodin just kicked in and my leg doesn't hurt nearly so badly at the moment.

We had a wonderful time in New Jersey yesterday. Anthony's aunt had a surprise 75th birthday party in Hamilton, NJ. We took NJ Transit (an hour and 15 minutes but the ride was very pleasant) and got there early so we helped Lisa (the celebrant's daughter) finish setting up the room. There were many people I didn't know so I stayed in the background and talked to the few people I did know. We had enough food for the Russian and Ukrainian armies. I had chicken parm and it came with spaghetti. The waiters began passing out the take out containers as soon as people were done because I don't think a single person finished their meal (the other choices were tilapia or steak). One of the grandchildren put together a DVD of the life of Nancy (the celebrant) which went over very well. The grandchild is now off to begin her freshman year at Boston University. She's a good kid and we wish her well.

We got home about 9:30 and went to bed soon after.

Today there is nothing on the schedule except a run to the store for milk, cheese and some fresh fruit.

I had written a few pages of a children's book (based on our stuffed animal collection) years ago but I loaned them to a friend (who I no longer see, I don't even know where she is) and I never got them back. I could probably reconstruct the pages but I don't know if that will ever happen.

Yes, years ago I was very interested in writing a book about the singers who dubbed many of the Hollywood greats in movies down through the years. Some, of course, were well known and even sometimes got screen billing while others were completely obscure. But I realized that

(a) the scope of the book was going to be far bigger than I had time to deal with it at that stage of my life,

(b) the saleability of such a book would be miniscule.

After I abandoned it, I noticed that it had partially been done by others (WHO SANG WHAT IN HOLLYWOOD) or was being currently worked on by folks who had been researching and interviewing for years. So, I'm hopeful of seeing such a book eventually. I have always found the whole subject fascinating.

I also wrote the beginning of a murder mystery years ago and outlined the rest of it, but I found I just wasn't clever enough to be able to disguise my killer and provide a baffling enough puzzle to make it viable.

I guess I need to head back down and get laundry ready for washing and then think about what I want to have for lunch. I'm really not very hungry today.

Bruce-- did you ever list the performers in the "What IF" videos?  Good group of people.  Who did the choreography for the revue?
