BK, forewarned is forearmed--if you have a problem with characters changing their minds at the drop of a hat on LOST, you're in for a rocky road during Season 4 and 5.  It was one of my few complaints with the series, which I love dearly--Kate does so many flip-flops (several within the course of just one episode), that I was ready to throw my shoe through the telly.

DR George - please don't leave us in suspense!!!   How did your first night with your new, openable skylight go??

Actually, it went quite well.  I went home at about 6:00 pm and it was 97° up there...and that was with the skylight being open all day!! :o But I wasn't staying long.  I went to my parents' house for a while.  But they time I did go to bed (at 11:30, which is quite early for me), it got down to about 94°.  Still very warm.  However, I had the ceiling fan in the room below set to blow the air up and on the high speed.  That created a very nice breeze that blew over me and kept me fairly cool all night.  And since the skylight let out the hot air, there was much more of a breeze than there had been possible with the un-openable skylight. ;D

Good morning, all!

Today at 1:45 I see a new doctor, and I hope this will be beneficial. I wasn't asleep until sometime after 1:30 am, because nothing I am currently taking would kill the pain enough for me to pass out. Around 4:30, I got up and took some more Vicodin and muscle relaxer and slept fitfully until 8:40 or so. I am bathed, shaved, and ready to see the new guy.

I had an inquiry from Brent Barrett about working on the holiday recording and I said yes; I'm not turning down jobs I can accomplish here since I can get around with my crutches and a car service, but I am considering turning down all out of town jobs until I get a clear picture and analysis of my health situation. I'm not even sure if I will be going down to DC on August 13 for the Life Begins At 8:40 reading at the LoC. Hopefully, I will be there.

That leads to your inquiries, DR Michael Shayne, about the revue:

1) Did Ira Gershwin and EY Harburg actually co-wrote the lyrics to together or the wrote them solo?
I have no idea; there are clues in the lyrics as to who may have written what, but I know nothing about the work process with them.

2) Are you including the three songs that cut from the show?
I only know of two cut songs: "I Knew Him When," which is being added to the score, and "I'm A Collector of Moonbeams," which has no siurviving music.
The LoC has as well in its "Life Begins . . ." materials a full score for "It Was Never Like This," but I can find no confirmation it was written for "Life Begins . . .".

& one purely academic: The show was originally going to be The Ziegfeld Follies of 1935----what happened?
I neither know nor care, I suspect the success of a self-help book entitled "Life Begins At 4-" was a large part of the reason.

DR Laura, thanks for the Dakotcelt updates.  What's going on with DR Danise?

Thank you for your responses.

According to the book I have the third song is:

Weekend Cruise (Will You Love Me Monday Morning As You Did On Friday Night)

Weekend Cruise was in the show when it opened on Broadway.

I watched last night's RESCUE ME while I ate lunch. I am SO over Janet and Sheila as characters on the show squabbling over the trifling Tommy. But the fire scenes were compelling, and the bar full of lesbians was something new for the series, too.
