I don't believe I've mentioned this, but then again my participation only became official last night:  I am performing in a reading today (and several future readings) of my dear friend Coni's play CANDLEDANCING.  I did this role many moons ago when the script was still in the gestation period, now, the script is published (!), available at Amazon (!) and readings throughout Pittsburgh and NYC are in order. . .

A woman at our church had a panic attack after a service once.

Sermons can do that to you.

It could have been your playing or your singing!

Back from the long jog, which was long.  It's gonna be another hot day here in the City of Studio.  I must now leave, but before I do, here's a fun something to do today - and it will be very helpful to me:

In the Kevin and Linda show, we're doing You're The Top - first with a lot of the fun original lyrics, but then we're doing a section of what it would be like if Cole Porter had to write the lyric today - so, here's one possible line:

You're the top,
You're an iPod mini

So, come up with your version of today's You're The Top lyrics - so much to choose from - rhyming is the hard thing and no cheating in terms of scan - it must fit exactly and the emphasis on words can't be off.  Facebook, YouTube, hybrid cars, trendy foods, trendy people like Obama (rhymes with drama, so that should be easy), Martha Stewart, anything happening and now - restaurants, artists, singers, actors, writers, trinkets, gadgets, gamebox, Playstation 3, all of it.  To it and have FUN!

The Bendel Bonnet, Shakespeare sonnet line alone should be fun to update.

Just finished watching the 1973 musical Lost Horizon for the first time.  Some of the numbers were certainly cringe-worthy, but overall it was campy fun.

I saw LOST HORIZON - THE MUSICAL in a theater when it was released; and for the time that the film played, I knew what it was like to be sentenced to prison!

DR elmore - Good to hear that you made it out and about this morning.  And just because I am really curious, just how much was the cab fare to go one block?

$3.10 but I gave him $5.00.

Even though I loved the first "Lost Horizon" and thought the idea of a musical would be interesting, I knew what was going to happen when I first heard that the makers of the movie had simply taken the Camelot castle and hung a moongate on it.  The movie looked and sounded dated when it was released.  Time has not been kind to the this remake except to move it from the realm of simply horrible to partly  horrible/partly camp.  I like some of the performers and some of the score, but still.....

You just kill;
You're Lou Dobbs' neurosis
My great thrill
Watching Bruno's grosses

The First Lady's arms
As she calmly charms the press
You're the cast of Cranford
The love Gov Sanford had to confess

TOD:  I love to share appetizers or have an appetizer and a side salad as a meal.

I usually do not have room to eat both an appetizer and an entree.

All-time favorite (and probably the first appetizer I can remember having)-- a shrimp cocktail

Last night's (shared) appetizer was a caramelized onion tart with goat cheese.  Quite yummy.

A
APPALOOSA comes on HBO-HD tonight, and I'm still deciding whether I want to watch it or not. I like the cast; I'll have to see how long it is. If it's an epic-length western, I'm not sure I'd have the patience for it.

Appaloosa is the only film I actually went to a movie theatre and paid money to see last year.  I loved it.  Also watched it on a plane.  It's standard length.

Took a drive up to Pulpfest in Columbus last night.  Hit some nice bookstores when I got in; hit the dealer rooms at the fest today.  It was fun and reminded me of the good old days of the LA bookfairs, with lots of interesting stuff.   Met Otto Penzler, mystery publishing-editing icon, got recognized a couple of times which was nice, but mostly was amazed at how much some ofthe stuff I've bought over the years has increased in price.
