Due to my late afternoon houseguest (whom I enjoyed seeing), I got off schedule a bit with the work project and then with leisure viewing. It took me a good hour to get today's work written up.

DR Jose, do you have any suggestions for home made ice cream/gelato/whatever that would be tasty but not too fattening?

Sorbets are non-fat since they're basically just frozen fruit purées.  However, some sorbet recipes call for egg whites - also fat-free - to add some "body" to them (as well as some protein too).

Actually, the easiest sorbet recipe I've come across:

-Buy a can of pears in syrup.
-Freeze the can.
-Take can out of freezer, open can, and serve.

Ice creams and ice milks can be easy and fat-free, but those types of recipes don't usually yield the tastiest results.  ;)

Check Epicurious and the Food Network site for some ideas and recipes.

Thanks DR Jose.   I knew you'd have some advice :)   I already use 1/2 and 1/2  instead of heavy cream and can use 2% instead of whole milk.   Perhaps that's the easiest, I'll check the link, though, Thanks

You can make ice creams with 2% milk and skim milk... But then you usually add an egg yolk or two.  Or cornstarch. But if you use fruits like bananas and papayas, then those can help with the "mouth feel" of the finished product.

You can also make granitas in an ice cube tray. Pour some fruit juices into an ice cube tray. Freeze.  Then blend them until their slushy.

When I got back to viewing, I put in the last of the DIRTY HARRY movies, THE DEAD POOL. A good premise for the movie but the ending was disappointing. I hadn't seen the movie in a few years, and I was hoping it might play better this time around. It didn't even though the Blu-ray looked and sounded splendid.

Next I took out Season 4 of THE CLOSER and rewatched an episode: the one with the teenage bombers. Heartrending,

BURN NOTICE had a wonderful summer finale tonight. Very exciting and a great cliffhanger taking us into its winter run, likely in January.

I'm planning to see Julie and Julia this weekend.  I'm not quite half way through the book,. so I may wait until saturday or Sunday in the hopes I can finish the book before I go.

For dinner I had Ben & Jerry's pistachio pistachio.

Really busy day, did not care that I ate the whole thing.

On the way back uptown, I stopped at Lincoln Square to pick up my ticket for the 10:00am showing tomorrow morning.  And since I hit a certain "level" with my AMC card, I also got a coupon for a free popcorn!  Should be a good morning.  Now I just need to plan out the rest of the day - the food in particular. ;)

I did not take notes while reading the posts, so I hope you don't mind if I say:

Congrats.

Health vibes.

Rain yes, flooding no.

I'm having a serious blond moment on the rest.

Just a heads up for anyone who sometimes watches The Young & The Restless.

Tomorrow (friday) is a not to be missed show.  Everything that pertains to nikki especially.

Ok, better get some sleep.  I'm really glad tomorrow is Friday.   This weekend I have to start emptying out all my cupboards in the kitchen.  Wednesday Night Chris is going to help me take the old countertops out and Thursday they new countertops will be here.   I can't wait to have them in but I'm not looking forward to doing all the prep.

I probably don't have to empty my upper cupboards, but I think I'm going to take out all the glass.  I can't help but thing that there will be vibration and pounding of some sort or another.  and if I'm wrong. It's a good time to clean out all the cupboards and maybe rearrange a few things.

I watched a motion picture on Blu-Ray and am done with my viewing for the evening.  Happy news is that How To Murder Your Wife is down to less than 100 copies.
