I don't have PAN'S LABYRINTH on Blu-ray, but I did watch it on HBO-HD when it was first broadcast, and I found the violence shocking and off-putting. Part of that was likely my own fault for not knowing more about the film before watching it. Knowing it was a fantasy, I had no idea that violent politics was going to play such a heavy part in the story.

Good morning, all!

I'm feeling a bit ragged this morning; last night I slept with the aid of no Tylenol PM, muscle relaxer or pain medication. I slept fitfully, but I did sleep rather well from 11 pm to 8:15 this morning. My ankle is killing me at the moment, and I shall soon run for the Vicodin because I have laundry to deal with this morning. I'm thinking that I shall take it easy today and not leave the apartment unless necessary. Because I'm accomplishing very little at the moment, I'm making no money and I am up to my ass in debt, so I need to finish the Loesser score ASAP to make room for next week's Brent Barret work and more of Moross' GENTLEMEN BE SEATED.  I brought home yesterday one chart to proof for LIFE BEGINS AT 8:40, and that's my weekend until Sunday, which is a rather manic day in which I need to be out and about.

DR vixmom, I would love to see you! I'm hoping when BK is in, I'm moving around better than I currently am!

DR Ginny, what's the state of the post-operation John?

DR JRAND58, we're waiting for the opening night post mortem!

Is today the DVD-CD day?

DVD:  Two Netflix BBC thrillers, IM WEISSEN ROSSL

CD: Guy Haines, who always cheers me up, Liz Callaway, Jacques Offenbach imports from Amazon.fr

VCR: Not tonight, Josephine!

We have a copy of A Child is Waiting on VHS (remember those?). Perhaps we will watch it this weekend.

I've really got nothing new to watch on DVD this weekend, so I'll probably some titles out of my already huge collection and look at them again.

Friday morning greetings!  Waiting on a call back from the doctor's office about which cholesterol medication we're going to try next.  In the meantime, I'm going to make a pie with the fresh Michigan blueberries we found yesterday at the market for a very reasonable price.

Thank you all for the kind wishes on our anniversary!

Ben! I forgot! I am so worried all these health and mental lapses are a foreshadowing of a really grisly old age!

Happy anniversary! I look forward to seeing both of you.

DR Elmore - thanks for asking about John.  As of late yesterday afternoon, there was no real change in his condition.  The procedures he had yesterday morning were not expected to have any effect other than to allow him to convalesce without permanent damage to his esophagus.  We are on a very steep learning curve here.

Good Morning,  That 7 minutes of rain we had yesterday morning must have tricked the weather because we have a cool spell coming over the weekend. It's now only 86 which is 10 to 15 degrees cooler than it has been at this time of day (7:00 am) for the last week or two.  I had better go outside before it gets hot.

I just saw my wonderful neighbor Alice while I was putting my things in the dryer. She's been slipping notes under my door checking on me. She's 74, planning a vacation and I should have had her energy and health at 50!

I just called my doctor to giver her my current status and concerns, and she's on vacation till August 24! What a load of crap.

I guess, if I run out of meds, I'll have to make an emergency visit to see her standin.

Thanks to everyone.  We had a fine opening night.  Everyone was very good, although there were some things happening that NEVER happened before.

The Innkeeper fell on a backstage ramp that he has gone up and down many times.  He then promptly forgot the lines to the third verse of KNIGHT OF THE WOEFUL COUNTENANCE so he made up his own words.  They were not nearly as good as Joe Darion's lyrics.

Maria the Innkeeper's wife and The Padre made a surprise guest appearance in Don Quixote's life speech scene.

The Barber, who is also a Muleteer,  got bopped in the head by one of the other Muleteers during the DULCINEA reprise, but he recovered.

The audience did stand up for us....the first opening night standing ovation this season.  And the cast ate almost 100 pieces of candy out of the bucket I brought - so I had to buy some more today.

And tonight, probably a sold out house.....and more MISADVENTURES!

TOD:

CD - John Wiliams Spanish Classical Guitar.  This is our preshow musical, and while it is NOT completely accurate time wise, there are some lovely songs on it.

DVD - Like DR DtM, The Lucy Show - with the original openings and commercials on many shows.  If the show did not reach I LOVE LUCY status - it was close.  I really hate the men they paired Lucy and Viv with, really no sparks there.  And the constant bickering with Mr Barnsdahl (Charles Lane) and later Mr Mooney (Gale Gordon in later seasons) was just repetitive and annoying.  I like Gale Gordon MUCH better as Mr. Conklin.

BUT three of the episodes for me are classic Lucy/Viv physical comedy.....Lucy & Viv Put Uo a TV Antenna, Lucy & Viv Install a Shower. and Lucy & Viv Are Volunteer Firemen.  I don't think anyone today - not even Debra Messing - could do the same things with the same resultant hilarity.

As for the Ray Bolger discussion - I have never met him, and stories here yesterday point to his pleasant personality in person - but he is just so............plain.....for a movie star.  And most of his dancing looks the same to me.  I won't repeat here again what Judy Garland said about that.

DR JRand58 - glad that opening night went reasonably well.  Are you performing the show with or without an intermission, and if so, where have you inserted it?

I'm up, have already done an errand, will go jog in about ten minutes, will go ship the last of the packages for The Apartment, and then I will await the gentleman who's picking up the tapes.

Ain't that right!

So far, the only adult male presense on the show I like is Dick Martin.  Charles Lane is Charles Lane but I prefer Gale Gordon's Mr. Mooney (have to wait till season 2 for him, I think.)

Also, I've noticed how bright and cheery and breezy Vivian Vance was in the first couple of episodes but then she seemed to have gone through a tough spell where she looked tired and drawn for a time.  Maybe she was starting to realize the show was a hit and that she was going to be tied to it (and the work) for the next couple of years.

Well DR DAW - we are breaking the law and doing the show in Two Parts.  My break comes immediately after the Padre sings "To Each His Dulcinea" and we open Part Two with the scene and song "The Quest."
