And let's start with the excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, worry-free, on-time, flight, and NO RAIN in New York, Newark, or anywhere nearby, preferably for the entire trip, but most importantly for tomorrow and then Thursday and Friday.

SAFE AND EASY TRAVEL VIBES FOR THE ENTIRE TRIP!

We are watching the NASCAR race from Bristol, TN.  John's middle daughter and her husband are there for a much-needed getaway weekend.

I have spent most of today reading, chronologically, through my HHW posts.  Sort of like a diary...

I've been watching the film of THIS IS THE ARMY; two of the stars of Life Begins At 8:40 were in both the stage show and the film version, in which the stage show doesn't begin until an hour into its film version! Still, it's great to see two of the secondary leads perform: Earl Oxford, who was a fabulous singer, does "I Left My Heart at the Stage Door Canteen" and James McColl plays Alfred Lunt and does an impersonation of Alfred Lunt. I think the nadir may be "Mandy," which is soooo un-PC on so many levels: blackface and drag queens in blackface!

I also liked some of the other numbers like the acrobats and the fantastic tumbler, but a lot of the men in drag are really ugly, but very funny.

So, I've now seen, of the Life Begins . . . principals, Frances Williams and Dixie Dunbar, who sings the wonderful "Let's Take A Walk Around the Block" with Earl Oxford, on youtube, Louella Gear in the Astaire-Rogers CAREFREE, Brian Donlevy in several films, and Ray Bolger and Bert Lahr in some film about the yellow brick road.

Well, I managed to make it through the remaining five episodes of THE UNTOUCHABLES I had to watch. Ness goes undercover in episode #15, and it ended up being the best episode in the set since it was a nice break from the same old-same old of each preceding episode.

I watched THIS IS THE ARMY a couple of months ago, and I was pleased to finally see a decent print of it. It has been in the public domain and copies on tape and DVD have always been abysmal. This was much improved from every other version I had ever seen.

Among the guest stars in the episodes I watched tonight were Dabbs Greer, Hershell Bernardi, Jay C. Flippen, Herbie Faye, Victor Buono, Ed Nelson, Dyan Cannon, Bert Convey, Henry Silva, Murray Hamilton, Edward Asner, and Charles Bronson.

Then, I finished watching PSYCH that I had started earlier today. Pretty fun episode overall. Love seeing Jim Beaver doing shows other than SUPERNATURAL.

The print from Netflix has terrible sound and strange skips in several numbers.

Is this the official Warner Bros. release from their new HOMEFRONT COLLECTION? Or could this be one of the older PD copies?

I'm assuming one of the earlier copies because the reviews for the Homefront Collection on Amazon are really good and I ordered the set. Earl Oxford is also in the Joan Crawford SADIE MCKEE, so I'm renting that now.

I somehow misplaced half a ham and Swiss sandwich today-- I sure hope I didn't pack it in a box of books or CD's.  I'll certainly know in a few days in this heat if I did!  Yikes!

As I was saying...

Then...

Since Friday afternoons are pay-what-you-wish days at the International Center of Photography, we headed over there to check out their new Avedon exhibit: Avedon and Fashion: 1944-2000.

What a true stunner of an exhibit!  Being able to get up close to some of those photographs was truly eye-opening. The models! Verushka, Dorian Leigh, Dovima, Suzy Parker, Robin Tattersall, Twiggy, Carmen, Lauren Hutton, Anjelica Huston, Mike Nichols(!)... The Fashion: Dior, Balenciaga, Galliano...

And as you look at his early photographs, and as you realize that he composed all those shots before PhotoShop was even a glimmer in someone's mind's eye... Again, Stunning!

I loved Avedon's fashion work-- especially his stuff from the 50's.

Needless to say, we had a wonderful dinner: wine, cheese, the "Pig's Ass Sandwich"...

:)

Could you explain this one, please.  Or as Ricky Ricardo would say, " 'splain."

the wires are ancient and I think that's the problem

In that case, wouldn't a wireless doorbell work better?
Yes, but I didn't know that it would only dong until I installed the wired one.  As long as I can tell when someone is at the door, I really don't care for now.

Well I suppose if you have to choose between having a ding or a dong.....
