Thank you all for the nice thoughts for Mustafa. He just lost his dad to cancer a few weeks back, and now to lose two more relatives in such a tragic way...well, it has just been a pretty rough time for him lately.

Poor guy.  Thank goodness he didn't also lose his brother.

My first trip to New York was for "The Great HHW Get-together of 2004"

It was one of the most enjoyable times of my life!

Ah, yes!  That was when my "Roman Hands" and "Russian Fingers" made your acquaintance. ::)

with the wrong appendage.

The title of my next novel:   With the Wrong Appendage

To me, it sounds more like the beginning of an Emily Dickinson poem:

And with the wrong appendage
I strode out onto the stage.
I blocked out Florence Eldridge
Who I managed to upstage.

I believe I've tried connecting in the past to no avail.  But maybe I'm misremembering.

I've showered and feel excellent.  Anybody around to meet up for a Diet Coke at the Edison coffee shop (I think that's what it's called).

Thanks for the offer but I'm at the office and can't get away. Haven't been to the Edison in years though I walk past it many times.

Elmo! how lovely that your fine gimpy self may be walking around!!!

My first NYC trip was - I think it was - spring of 1972, when I flew in to audition at Juilliard. I stayed at my friend Justin's apt... Justin is a wonderful man whom I met on a production in 1969, who introduced me to my first singing teacher - he had said learning to sing would make me more employable as an actor...

Anyway, it was a quick trip in and back out - and by Sept 1972, I was living in Noo Yawk in the very apartment described in the slightly fictionalized semi-autobiographical novel Jewish Thighs blahblahblah, and going to Juilliard.

I'm in LA for that long weekend at my theater - wow, I worked front of house for three separate, excellent productions playing in rep, attended the board meeting yesterday morning, I'll meet with my boss this afternoon, work the literary evening tonight, and fly back to Seattle tomorrow! I'm staying at Rikki's son's palatial house in Playa Vista - yowza! I'll be staying here again when I get back end of Sept, dawg-sitting while said nephew and his lovely wife are a-travlin'.

Hainesies in LA environs might like these shows at Rogue Machine Theatre on Pico, just west of La Brea. I'm so proud to be involved with this bunch o' peeps... check out www.roguemachinetheatre.com when you get a chance. Stop Kiss is a wonderful, touching show - and Henry Murray's Treefall is a majorly great show, one of the best things I've ever seen on so many levels - playwriting, set, acting, directing, hell - even the sound designer got great reviews.

Hi, Jane - yeah, I'm afraid Karen will be there before I start down. I'll have to get together with her once I get back to LA.

And, yes, I LOVE that photo too!

*Daniel asked me if I preferred that he not post it publicly (on his Flickr account), just in case I wanted to preserve the "magic" of Monkey.  Nah! It's a great pic, and there's still some "magic".

It is very magical to see the man behind the Monkey photos.

Jose should invite Daniel back to tail him for a few days and then we could have an entire series of "The Man Behind Monkey" photos to enjoy.

MASTERING THE ART OF FRENCH COOKING, VOL. 1, by Julia Child, Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle.

Because DR S. Woody White has absented himself from posting, I must take up his slack:

"Momento" -- misspelling of the word "memento".

People are thought to use "momento" by associating it with "memorable MOments".

Some dictionaries have begun listing it as a variant of "memento."

Oh yes, the Wells Fargo Wagon the USPS electric powered, right-hand drive truck has arrived. I went up the drive to greet the driver since Mr Dependable Amazon had mailed a package on Friday, so I was pretty sure it would arrive today (even though I selected the Super Saver (slower) shipping. (A good deal of their East Coast shipping originates in New Castle, Delaware (a mere 80 miles up the Highway).

In the Goody Box:

Eli Stone - Second Season
Doctor Who - Tom Baker - (Ark in Space, Sontaran Experiment, Genesis of the Daleks)
Torch Song Trilogy - somehow missing from our collection
Waiter Rant (Paperback)

Woody will be encaved for days.

For those looking for a special gift for a loved one:

Auction price for crypt above Marilyn Monroe's reaches $4 million

August 24, 2009 |  8:20 am

This piece of real estate in Westwood might not be suffering from the economic downturn.

The crypt above Marilyn Monroe's resting place was placed for sale on EBay for a $500,000 starting price, but the bidding is now up to more than $4 million. Bidding ends today, and 28 people have vied for the crypt.

The crypt belonged to Richard Poncher. The onetime Beverly Hills resident, who died 23 years ago at the age of 81, will be moving out of the crypt above Monroe's resting spot at the Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park cemetery.

His wife, Elsie, is hoping that he has just a little more to give. She wants to use the money to help pay off the $1.6-million mortgage on her 1 3/4-acre Beverly Hills home.

"I can't be more honest than that," she told The Times. "I want to leave it free and clear for my kids."

Ah, yes - for the children!

At least in a crypt you are safe from cemetarying natives and their dogs.
