Session is going fine - I would like to be one song further than we are, but we're doing well, Brent sounds good, the arrangements are super, and it's Christmas in September.  More later.

From JMK:
Quote
Jane, I'm sorry, I simply can't remember the name.  I don't think it was ISLAND AT WAR.  Unfortunately I no longer have access to DVD Talk's database so can't look it up.  I'll try to remember.  I do remember it had someone fairly well known in it, and as soon as I remember who that is, I can look up their credits on IMDb and hopefully recreate it from that.  I do remember that one of the main characters was the doctor of the island, whose daughter was part of the resistance.  The doctor was forced to become part of the liaison group between the Islanders and the Nazis.

I thought maybe you were referring to Rutger Hauer, however, when I double checked the film was FATHERLAND
Funny, yesterday I couldn’t find anything about a documentary, today I found this…. http://www.tomahawkfilms.com/page_7.aspx  And today I’m finding fewer listings of films of the occupation.

Was the movie ENEMY AT THE DOOR: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0122818 ?  If not, I give up.

Jane, look at my post right after the one you quoted for your answer.  :)

DR JMK thank you for the interesting & well written review of ENEMY AT THE DOOR.  After reading your comments I believe we shall begin with ISLAND AT WAR.  In fact I moved it to the top of our NetFlix queue.  I wish you had reviewed both movies for a comparison.

I watched the golden age period of BROADWAY: THE AMERICAN MUSICAL later this morning before I started cooking lunch. Such an enjoyable series.

While I ate lunch, I watched last night's THE MENTALIST. I remember that I guessed the guilty party the first time I saw this episode, but it was still enjoyable with all of the hypnotism floating around the episode.

We have ruled a few areas of the country out. Namely California, the schools there have a hiring freeze as do a number of other states for higher education

WE do plan on visiting some friends in the San Francisco area next year. DH and his friend Jim are already making bets as to how long it will take me to get out of City Lights and Amoeba

Then, I watched my work project for the day - IRON MONKEY. Unlike HERO from yesterday, this Hong Kong kung fu movie had no pretentions to anything mythic or artsy. It was a fun comic adventure tale much in the spirit of a Chinese Batman or Robin Hood movie. In fact, in the bonus features, the "Iron Monkey" was referred to as the CHinese Zorro. All of these are appropriate analogies.

There were only two bonus features: brief interviews with Quentin Tarantino (9 minutes) and one of the film's stars Donnie Yen (6 minutes).

So, I was finished with a great deal of time to spare.

ATWT featured Luke and Noah with their story arc interloper Nash who's going to come between the couple in the weeks ahead. Of course, once getting this story arc started, it's no surprise that they weren't in the previews.

I ended my afternoon watching an episode from Season 1 of THE CLOSER, the famous one that introduced Jason O'Mara as Bill Croelick. One of my all-time favorite CLOSER episodes.

Craig & Ioana would have moved there, if the job opportunities were higher & the rents lower.  Maybe they should have instead of going to Philly.  They are busy applying for jobs in the D.C. area.  I pray they both find something good.

I'm going with my sister, her boyfriend and my dad (this was his birthday present) to see Dave Brubeck perform this Sunday in Seattle!

One of my co-workers was looking through a book at lunch, "If Ignorance is Bliss, Why Aren't There More Happy People? : Smart Quotes for Dumb Times."  He came across this quote, it appealed to him and he thought that I'd like it.  I do...and I think others here might, also:

"Music is the only cheap unpunished rapture on earth."

Opening within a month:  Walkway Over the Hudson

A re-purposed RR bridge converted to a public park, sort of like NYC's Highline, except further north, near Poughkeepsie, and very very high over the Hudson river!!   :D
