DR JOSE's story reminds me of the funniest joke that I heard David Brenner say.....and he wasn't so funny in my book.....he said he was on a subway and put a newspaper on the seat because something was on it.

A man got on at the next station and looked at him and said: "Are you reading that paper?"

Brenner said he stood up, turned the page, and sat back down saying:  "Yes, I am."

DR JRand - I never got David Brenner either.  And I always thought that Robert Klein was more thought-provoking than funny.

Hmmm...

So...

There's a "Terror Alert" in certain neighborhoods of Queens.  Citizens are being asked to alert the authorities if they happen to smell any chemicals in the air... bomb-making materials.  :-\

That's kind of scary.  I'm gonna go turn on the news now.

They had "terror raids" yesterday - which, after watching the two men get escorted off the plane yesteday, well...

The raids didn't result in any finds or arrests, so they're asking people to be on alert.

I'm trying to figure out just how "BIG" this alert is... The story did not lead off the Noon news.  It came after the local elections and Patrick Swayze's death.

It started yesterday, or very early yesterday morning. A man was arrested in Queens yesterday after being tracked for a while by authorities. He is a legal resident of the U.S. but he had made trips to Pakistan and Afghanistan and sources indicated he could be trouble. When he arrived in New York (Queens specifically) yesterday authorities moved in and arrested him (and some others if I recall correctly). I don't know if they "raised" the terror alert or just made clear that things might happen in this neighborhood and to be aware of what's happening.

It's not as big because as I mentioned, the story broke yesterday afternoon, probably while you were in transit. Even so, it was "breaking news" and they followed up at 11pm but it didn't turn into "All Terror, All the Time"

As to the California gas prices - until the government steps in and calls them on their actions, they will continue to play these games until they can no longer get away with it.  They are playing an especially dangerous game this time, given the prices in the rest of the country.  They've got the oil and they have purposely not done what they needed to do.

Didn't that movie star Suzanne Pleshette and Ben Gazzara?

Prayers for the family of Mr Patrick Swayze.

If you are planning to watch a movie to remember him, I recommend that you find THREE WISHES co-starring Miss Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio - a fine fantasy-romance-growing up type of film that didn't get much play.  I saw it on cable MANY years ago and finally found the DVD.

Hello!

I'm downstairs on the laptop trying out this unreliable connection. It seems to be OK so far.

I'm at work now, but I couldn't get onto the Internet at home at all this morning! :P I just hope it's okay by the time I get home tonight.

I'm just glad it was beer. Or at least smelled like beer.

*And, yes, those jeans were in the washing machine just a few minutes after I stepped through the door of my apartment, and I jumped in the shower shortly after that.  Just sayin'.

So it's "He whose seat smelled like beer"

Hopefully, by the time I get home the bookcase problem will be a thing of the past.

May it truly be so!!!

Well, I'm home and nothing's been done, so, once again, I am concerned about what's going on.

So, George, whatcha think of Leno?

der Brucer

It wasn't the complete train wreck that I was thinking, but I wasn't impressed...nothing special.  I don't need to watch this on a regular basis.

It seemed like "Early Tonight" to me.  Nice set, though.   I haven't quite gotten a handle on the format.  Having seen various snips of things he'll be doing, I'm not sure if it's going to be more along the lines of what Carson used to do (like the Great Karnak), or if, in fact, he's going to have more variety than we've seen before.

I really loved the Car Wash sequence with what's his name....a very talented guy, that guy.  I had no trouble changing the channel after that number was over, though.

I did like the car wash sequence.  The guy is Dan Finnerty and he's Kathy Najimy's husband!  I've seen him in a couple of other things and he's pretty funny...and pretty cute, too. :D
