As promised, here is your advance announcement (official announcement probably won't happen until late Friday, or maybe even over the weekend) for the new Kritzerland release - we're very excited to be releasing it.  As always, if you want to pre-pre-order, just go directly to paypal and use our paypal address of kritzerland at adelphia dot net.  Price is 19.98 plus 3.75 shipping.

CRY FOR US ALL  Original Broadway Cast Recording

Kritzerland is proud to present its newest limited edition release, the original Broadway cast recording to CRY FOR US ALL, with music by Mitch Leigh, lyrics by William Alfred and Phyllis Robinson, and book by William Alfred and Albert Marre.

Hopes were high for Cry For Us All – after all, it was adapted from the hit off-Broadway show, Hogan’s Goat, which had run two years (and starred Faye Dunaway, Ralph Waite, Cliff Gorman, and Conrad Bain), it had music by Mitch Leigh, who’d just had a smash hit with Man Of La Mancha, it had La Mancha’s director, Albert Marre, La Mancha’s leading lady, Joan Diener, and the brilliant star of The Most Happy Fella, Robert Weede.  The book was by Alfred (with Albert Marre), and the rest of the cast was stellar, with Steve Arlen, Helen Gallagher, Tommy Rall, and many others.  But, after a troubled out-of-town tryout, during which many changes were made, the show opened at the Broadhurst Theater on April 8, 1970 (where it followed Woody Allen’s Play It Again, Sam), and closed after only nine performances.  Perhaps a serious musical melodrama set in 1890 Brooklyn about the trials and tribulations of some power-hungry Irishmen just wasn’t what the tired businessman of 1970 was interested in.  Despite that, the show was nominated for two Tony Awards – one for best actor in a musical (Robert Weede) and one for set designer Howard Bay (also from the La Mancha team).

The fact is, listening to the tuneful and sometimes operatic score holds many pleasures, especially when the songs are delivered by the brilliant Robert Weede, Joan Diener, and Steve Arlen, along with Miss Gallagher, Mr. Rall, and the large supporting cast.   Leigh’s score to Man Of La Mancha had been like a breath of fresh air on Broadway (and hearing it every time the show is revived, it’s still like a breath of fresh air), and Cry For Us All is filled with his signature rhythms and meter changes and it affords Weede, Diener, Arlen, and company meaty opportunities to dig in to Leigh’s tuneful and soaring melodies.

So, discover the delights of Cry For Us All – available for the first time on CD.

This release is limited to 1000 copies only.  The price is $19.98 plus shipping.

CDs will ship by the first week November – however, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks earlier (we’ve been averaging four weeks early).

Sam, you didn't get your free gift because you got your books before the gifts had arrived.  Had you come to the signing you would have gotten it there, but just come on by and I'll give them to you.

BK, it's always interesting to read about the development of the long musical.  I've seen shows like Shrek and Young Frankenstein in their pre-Broadway runs in Seattle and I think it's fascinating to see the changes in the shows throughout their development to their final versions. :)

Good morning, all! I have two short pieces to score for FINIAN'S RAINBOW, and I have a day home to do them.  Beyond that, the apartment is looking more and more tidy, although I need a day to do nothing but organize my 2009 receipts; I'm finding too many taxi slips everywhere but where they should be.

As to last night's GLEE, I don't like it much. I really dislike almost all of the characters: the wife and girlfriend are lying bitches, the butch character's line about "accepting an honorary degree" - who whould give her an honorary degree and in what field? - seemed completely out of character, our other leading lady is an egocentric virago who I wish would shut up for a while, and the men seem to be passive whimps allowing these unpleasant women to walk over them. My favorite character last night was the father because he had a few surprises in his onscreen time.

Good morning!

This will be the warmest day we've had in the last couple of weeks, but thankfully, it's the last really warm weather for a spell. And we're going to have some lows in the 50s in the next few days which pleases me very much!

My work project today is the last of the three movies in the Makavejev box: INNOCENCE UNPROTECTED. It should be relatively painless, but I'll be glad to be done with this director. He is one of my least favorites of the steady stream of director works that Criterion offers.

Tonight is a huge night for TV with returning favorites like GREY'S ANATOMY (two hours tonight), THE MENTALIST, and CSI.

We have the premiere of the intriguing FLASH FORWARD on ABC.

Shows that have already had their season premieres also show up with new episodes tonight: BONES, FRINGE, THE OFFICE, PROJECT RUNWAY, SUPERNATURAL, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, COMMUNITY, and PARKS & RECREATION.

Like DR JRand, I loved cream horns.

I used to cook those Pillsbury apple turnovers. Fresh out of the oven with that drizzled sugar icing, they were surprisingly good. I haven't had one of those in eons. Do they even make them any more?

I've also put in an order for CRY FOR US ALL.  I've heard a very scratchy copy of this a few years ago but still enjoyed it.  Can't wait to hear a clean version!

Well tonight i am going to watch SURVIVOR to see the most evil villain ever on the show!

I think i will record COUGAR TOWN when it repeats tomorrow.

I am also curious what people will think of the new FLASH FORWARD (not sure if i will watch it tonight). I sometimes find it hard to get into new shows. But i will record it.
