This morning is church.  And tonight starts Yom Kippur.

Have an easy fast, for those observing.

Rain has come to Manhattan.

Today is the Annual Broadway Cares Flea Market, usually held outdoors on 44th Street and in Shubert Alley.

Since rain has been in the forecast for most of the week and it's supposed to rain most of the day they decided to move the FM indoors to Roseland.

I will try to be positive about this.

In recent years the FM has become a mob scene outdoors. I can only imagine what it will be like indoors. Many of the attendees are just creepy people who have absolutely no interest in theatre or the FM, they just want to buy things and put them up on E-bay. It's difficult to move around and I only go year after year because I have friends involved and it's an important event. When it's outdoors people arrive early before things are actually set up causing headaches for the people at the various tables because if you're "already there" who cares if it's not 10am (the official starting) time, sell it to me now!!! Instant gratification with no regard to other people or issues.

We shall see how this all works out.

What's the line about instant gratification (Milla used it on her CD, maybe she knows the source, if any) -

"instant gratification takes too long"

DR Jane (and others) re: the comments last night about why don't i splurge and buy my favorite author's book.

Well ideally obviously I would. But I read a lot and get all my books from the library. In the case of the book she is signing it is book 13 (or something like that) in a series (i have read them all but don't own the others).

In this economy, even though i love to read. i'm fine with being able to read all the books i want (just having to return them to the library when i'm done).

That's too bad about the broadway flea market. I wish i could be there. I love that flea market!

It is also raining heavily here.

And for the first time all summer i have to exercise inside. It is supposed to rain hard all day. and with fasting tomorrow i won't be able to exercise at all tomorrow.

I have an indoor bike. Although i never use it cause the seat isn't that comfortable. And i have a rebounder (mini-trampoline).

Yes...TAR starts tonight!  I am glad it is a 2 hour premiere unlike the one hour they had last year.

It will probably start late here thanks to FOOTBALL.

I think DR TCB was asking about the DVD transfer of THE LAST VOYAGE.  It's not so hot - not much better than a video tape, but I like the movie, so I can live with it.

Thank God. The world is so much safer now that Roman Polanski is in custody.

Good morning!

We had rain off and on for most of the night, and it was still misty when I went out for my walk this morning. Glad I was able to get it finished without getting wet, and the coolness does great things for my spirits. It IS, however, going into the low 80s this afternoon, so we're not out of the woods yet in terms of heat.

I guess I will work on MONSOON WEDDING as my work project today. I'm expecting so many review items to arrive in the mail next week that I will go ahead and get this one out of the way even though it doesn't come out until the 20th of October.

It's a two disc set (the second disc is a bunch of short films made by the director), so I'm expecting to work on the first disc this afternoon and the second disc in the evening.

Yes, more season premieres tonight with the returns of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, BROTHERS & SISTERS, THE AMAZING RACE, COLD CASE, Fox's cartoon line-up.

DEXTER returns to Showtime tonight, too.

And MAD MEN has another new episode.

I still have MONK and THE OFFICE on the DVR to watch. I recorded the action filmed WANTED off HBO-HD last night, but I have no clue when I'll have time to watch that.

I don't know, Fred.  I don't think so.  I'm really not a fan of crowds and crowded spaces.  And while I like it in concept, I realize that I don't actually want to buy anything that I will then need to find a place to store for the rest of my life.  How's that for a lousy attitude?

So, yesterday I went to see an Off Broadway show called The Night Watcher, which was very good.

But there was a man in the audience who I don't think took a shower for two or three weeks.  He smelled so badly that all of the patrons seated around him needed to be re-seated by the House Manager.   The man ended up sitting in the front row by himself, with everyone else needing to be moved back to whatever random seat happened to be open.  Should not the theater have asked the very smelly man to leave, instead?

I'm going to finish up a few chores in the office and then head downstairs to get clothes ready for the laundry today and then watch the last of the Brett/Holmes programs in THE CASE-BOOK set.
