Last night, I ushered for a performance by the one and only Kate Clinton!  She was wonderful!  She spoke for about an hour and a half, was very topical and everyone loved her.  A great evening was had by all!  Afterwards, she came out (no pun intended ;)) to the lobby and greeted people as they left, signed any autographs and had pictures taken with many of the patrons.  I asked her to sign the WCPA season brochure for me and she did:

ADRIANA CASTING SUGGESTION:

Kay Panabaker

In her 2004-5 series "Summerland" she played:

Quote
Nikki is at an awkward age of 13 and trying to fit in to the Californian teenage world. She is very bright and enjoys reading books and writing poetry- not the popular shopping and clothes.

She played a pal of Nancy Drew in the movie, and had a lead roll in the new remake of Fame.

Our little OCIEE NASH star, Skyler Day, is about the right age now. She guest starred recently on icarly. Apparently you can see her episode on Hulu, but I don't Hulu, so...

She is one of the sweetest, most wonderful kids ever---a dream to work with. Very professional, and also has a nice singing voice and writes songs. She's going to be singing at the Bluebird Cafe on Jan 31st. If we weren't going to be in LA then I would go up for that! She's also in some CMT competition right now. And she lives in LA.

Check her out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaBaWRNh2pU&feature=related

Favorite Mercer lyrics:

She's got a nervish, throwin' him a curvish/ which is something he doesn't deservish.
Poor old whirling dervish!

If you're a P-V-T, your duty / Is to salute to L-I-E-U-T / But if you brush the L-I-E-U-T / The M-P makes you K-P on the Q-T!

When you is antiquated / Boys ain't enchantiquated

I got a million of 'em...

With WalMart offering the up-coming top 10 DVDs for $9.99 (and free shipping), Christmas Shopping for the grand lads was easy:

Terminator Salvation
Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince
Star Trek XI
Night at The Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

(and Angels and Demons for my Daughter - an Julie and Julia for Woody!)

LATIMES

Quote
California cities act to ban cat declawing

L.A. is among those rushing to prohibit the practice before a state law backed by a group of vets says they can't.
...
Veterinarians who did not want cities meddling in their business persuaded the state Legislature to bar local governments from banning the practice of declawing cats -- beginning in 2010.

Not wanting to be pushed around themselves, nearly half a dozen cities are rushing to prohibit the controversial procedure before the January deadline, striking a blow for rights both animal and municipal.
...

I have no death-wish, so I will not suggest a discussion of the pros and cons of banning de-clawing; the story does raise interesting issues about what levels of government have the right to dictate to others.

Last night, I finished reading BK's WRITER'S BLOCK.

If you haven't read it, I can't recommend it too highly.  It's totally unique, a real page-turner.

Little known fact about Johnny Mercer:

He was originally set to write the lyric for the main theme to THE SANDPIPER.

I don't know the exact reason (Perhaps he was ill), but at some point, he was replaced by Paul Francis Webster.

The song, "The Shadow of Your Smile," won the Oscar that year.

This morning I woke up glanced at the clock and thought it said 8:45.  I thought it seemed a bit dark for 8:45, but I didn't have any reason to doubt it.  I got up, got ready for my day and looked at the clock.  It was now 7:05, lol. It's ok. I'm going to an auction this morning so I don't mind an early start to the day

Re: Adriana casting suggestions

DR Jose mentioned the soap operas. There is one person on The Young & The Restless who is the right age and type. She is a good actress (she used to be great on Gilmore Girls). but she is not so hot in her current role (on the soap). But i think a lot of it is the character.

Anyhow her name is: Vanessa Marano.

Re: Kay Panabaker. I watched her on Summerland. She was very good. I can't believe she is 19 now. But i'm guessing she would look younger (although i have not seen her in a few years).

My poor niece is not feeling well after her thursday flu shot.

She had a fever yesterday and was totally out of it. And now in the middle of the night she woke up with a bloody nose which she got everywhere. And now she has a fever again (close to 103F). But at least the meds are bringing it down.

I know it is a common symptom in kids to get this reaction after the H1N1 shot. IT just sucks. My poor sis is losing her mind because she is so tired.
