And now I'm off to the Museum of Natural History to help - brave - a crowd of school children who are going on a scavenger hunt.
...
On purpose?
Not only on purpose, but also basically on the fly!
I noticed a Tweet from Doug - a.k.a. The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck Man - saying that he was volunteering at the American Museum of Natural History today. There were lots of kids, but not that many adults. So, I tweeted back asking if they needed more chaperones, and he texted me back: "Come on down!" So, I did.
Of course, once I got there, the whole student to adult ratio had increased. In fact, in our group, it ended up being one-to-one: four kids, four adults. They had broken each of the school groups into smaller groups, and then
New York Cares assigned a couple of adult volunteers to each group. However, since we were watching over a group of third-graders, the one-to-one ratio was a good thing.

They were actually great kids. There were some "trouble spots" during the day, but they were kids just being kids. No one got hurt, no one cried (well, one girl almost started to cry), and they all gave us big hugs when we left. I really had a wonderful time. *And not only was it nice getting into the museum for free, but they also gave each group a bunch of vouchers for lunch in the museum cafe!
