Veteran's Day greetings!  It's a crisp, sunny day here in SW Ohio.  I'm picking up my mom just before 1pm to take her to the eye doctor.

Everyone in my family wore them in the 1950s. I haven't even seen one in years.

Perhaps Hainsie-Kimlets can singlehandedly revive the trend!!

DR DAW, many many people in canada where poppies on their lapels for Remembrance Day, which is today.

Poppies used to be "poppy-ular" here, too, but I haven't seen folks wear them for years. My dad always wore an artificial one on Veterans' Day.

Everyone in my family wore them in the 1950s. I haven't even seen one in years.

My mother used to distribute them when I was a young un' as part of the work with the American Legion and VFW. You put a donation in a canister and got a poppy.

Dr. Ruth was at the conference in Toronto.  She knows my DH; in fact, she refers to him whenever she sees him as "that big one."  I will leave you to draw your own conclusions.   :)

Good morning, all! Yes, indeedy, today is a Federal Holiday: no mail. While it irks me, I don't know how our DR MattH will survive. I think he and I are the most manic DRs about postal delivery.

You are right about that! I am VERY upset over no postal delivery. Is UPS delivering today?

Absolutely, and I believe you are also a member of that illustrious group!

Thank you to all who have served in the armed forces for our country. We often don't take enough time to honor and appreciate these brave and loyal men and women!

Now I'm going to write for just a bit and then head down to see if I can finish the three SCRUBS I have left before beginning on lunch preparation. No mail to check, so that won't take any time today. :(

My DH Richard, a proud veteran, usually participates as an Honor Guard member in Veteran's Day ceremonies.  However, today he's going to the funeral of a veteran.  John was the husband of a former teaching colleague of Richard's and he masterfully installed the carpeting in our family room about 15 years ago.

Our son is spending Veteran's Day in 8 hours of clinical EMT practice - 4 in the ER at Kettering Medical Center and 4 at Middletown Fire Department's Station 81.

JRand, I think I recorded a few of those Marie Dressler/Polly Moran films from the other day, plus one very early Jack Benny film from around 1930 which I look forward to watching today.

Some very interesting titles in that flyer that you posted yesterday, JMK. Some of those British B titles sound like fun.

Kettering Medical Center

Named, I believe, for Charles F. Kettering. He and Alfred P. Sloan established the Sloan-Kettering Institute (SKI) which later merged with Memorial Hospital to become Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

And that is your history lesson for today.

Back to the Ford Foundation.

Yes, DR Ben,

Charles F. Kettering

is a "biggie" in the history of Dayton, Ohio.

TOD:

Ask bk -

bk, do you have to pay the same royalty schedule [mechanicals] for songs on a DVD release of a concert or cabaret program as you do for a CD release?

Pretty much.

Many Americans wear them as well.
