There was a commentary with director Daniel Petrie who also directed Newman years later in FOR APACHE THE BRONX. He said the years hadn't changed him at all, a sweet, genuine, giving actor with no star attitude or pretense at all.

Now I've started the 90-minute Playhouse 90 presentations, and the introductions are now much longer than the ones for the hour dramas. Both the one for REQUIEM FOR A HEAVYWEIGHT and THE COMEDIAN were 15+ minutes long.

I watched last night's CASTLE while I ate lunch. Once again, I spotted the guilty party very easily, but it was still a very enjoyable episode. Really liked Molly Quinn's secrets from daddy until the end of the show that kept him on edge and guessing. Wonderfully played by Nathan Fillion.

Then I watched REQUIEM FOR A HEAVYWEIGHT. I've had this TV version on videotape for years, but I was hoping it would be a bit cleaner and sharper on DVD. Alas, no such luck. It is what it is.

Great drama, of course, and marvelous performances. No wonder Palance won the Emmy. Ed Wynn got nominated, too, but what a joke that Keenan Wynn didn't get a nomination. He was better than his father (but, of course, this was Ed Wynn's first dramatic performance after years of being a clown, and I'm sure the nomination was to reward him for a valiant effort.)

There was a commentary for REQUIEM with director Raplh Nelson, but it was 13 minutes into it before he even mentioned REQUIEM. He talked mostly about his years in the business and really talked only briefly about the show.

I watched the introduction (17 minutes) for THE COMEDIAN and a 9-minute interview with John Frankenheimer (which is excerpted in the introduction, much to my disappointment. I hoped this was going to be all new material). There is a commentary that I suspect is Frankenheimer, but I won't listen to it until I have watched the show, another one I already have on videotape and hope the DVD version is better quality.

I had time to skim through today's OLTL (nothing) and ATWT (more drama with comatose Noah and Luke beating himself up because of the accident.)

Hopefully, the boys will be back on OLTL tomorrow.

I just read the Times obit; I never thought of THE EQUALIZER as a "spy series."

Has anybody beside me had problems with Amazon's "Free Shipping" during the past few months?

They used to ship strictly via USPS, and once the item left the warehouse I got it within 3 days.

Now, they're using a method called FedEx Smart Post, and it's taking an average of 10-14 days for the packages to get to me...and, on two occasions, they got lost because the FedEx scan had problems being recognized by the USPS scanner.

Very irritating.
