... And there are things to do in Cincinnati besides eat...

Yeah...the Zoo!

PAWNATION

Quote
Unlikely Best Buds: A Puppy and a Cheetah

A puppy and a cheetah cub may seem like unlikely bedfellows, but at the Cincinnati Zoo they are brother and sister.

According to the Wilmington News Journal, the zoo adopted Cali, a mixed breed pup, to raise alongside Nia, their cheetah cub. Nia's other two siblings didn't survive and the zoo was looking for a similar animal to raise with Nia. The zoo needs to socialize Nia because she is being raised as an ambassador animal that will travel to schools to teach children about wildlife and conservation.

Tomorrow we arrive in Genoa.  I wonder if DR Ron has any phones numbers he could give me for that city?  I will certainly try some of your food suggestions, Ron.

Thanks, BK.  Thanks everyone.  I just didn't want Mr. Haines filing any copywright infringement cases against me.

We were supposed to have sailed thirty five minutes ago.  I have a feeling we may still be missing a few passengers!

Speaking of overboiling, DR Elmore, have you watched the Karl Bohm ELEKTRA yet?

I must shamefacedly admit no, DR Dan(theMan)! It's sitting here with 3 Netflix items. I'm pathetic.

Good Afternoon!

Well... I can tell that if I don't get off the couch in a few minutes, I never will. And since the sun is out, and since I haven't been down to The Highline in a few weeks, well...

The menu is out for our next Beer Dinner:

Welcome Reception (First Course):
Artisanal Cheese Course
paired with a Beer Sampling

Second Course:
Oyster Chowder
ale, bacon, potatoes
paired with Southampton Double White Ale

Third Course:
Tea-Smoked Duck Breast
framboise-soaked cherries, pancetta-corn bread pudding
paired with Troegs Mad Elf dark ale

Fourth Course:
Chestnut-Stuffed Venison Roulade
pear-star anise mostarda, yam & butternut terrine
paired with Victory Old Horizontal Barleywine

Fifth Course:
Flourless Chocolate Torte
espresso crème anglaise
paired with Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout

My wish list was for future dinners included: Oyster Stew, Duck, Venison (either one with cheeries) and Phesant. 3 down, one to go.

Note for Ron Pulliam: when in Vicenza did you ever have mostarda vicentina?

Oh, the puppy and the cheetah should be friends!
Oh, the puppy and the cheetah should be friends!
One of 'em likes to sleep and play,
The other one likes to run all day,
But that's no reason why they can't be friends!

I'm going to Junior's Deli, perhaps my least favorite next to Art's Deli.  Hoping to find something decent to eat.

Well, I have managed to churn out reviews for the Abbado Mahler 3 and the SF Ballet Nutcracker, so I believe I can rest until GWTW arrives (hopefully tomorrow--Warner did not send us a screener of this title and my personal copy is of course delayed).

I'm back after having a tutorial from my live-in computer guru (DS Rob) on how to use the mp3 player (not an iPod) that I won at the ALA conference back in July.  My plan is to use it just for audiobooks and podcasts that I don't want to keep forever.  It wasn't nearly as complicated as the instruction book made it look.

I'm afraid I am unfamiliar with any phone numbers in Genoa, TCB.  I am sure, though, the same rules apply.  Be careful, though, as it's a port city.  Lots of ruffians and slavetraders there.  You never know where you might end up....or upend.

I iz here, Jrand.

And speaking of autographs, Sally Todd's agent, who is a swell guy who I met in Burbank a couple of years ago, sent me Sally''s personally autographed photo as thanks for assisting the two of them recently.

He also included a personally autographed photo of one of his other clients, a Ms. Jane Russell! I was quite thrilled with both autographs, I must say.

He and Jane just returned from a 2 week tour of Europe where she was performing. He told me the turn out was spectacular!

I had time to get last week's LAW & ORDER watched. Jonathan Cake was again the primary guest star (this time on trial) and Kate Burton was his cousel. Quite a wonderful show.

Then I watched last night's NCIS: LA. I enjoyed the show this week, or maybe I'm just getting used to it, but it doesn't have the mystery element that makes me enjoy NCIS so much.

Then I watched FIGHT CLUB on Blu-ray. What a superb transfer both visually and audibly. Top notch.

The film is provocative and filled with interesting ideas. It's a bit of a mess from time to time, and for me some of it doesn't quite pass muster, but it's a fun ride as most Fincher films are.
