Jane is home and is very heavily medicated.

I'm glad Jane is home.  I know she'll be in pain (even with the medication), but I know she'll be better off with Keith and Sherlock.

Excuse me for being E & T the last two days.  As soon as I got back from my trip, I got hammered by the Cold from Hell.

Still, I have been trying to keep up.

HAPPY 91ST BIRTHDAY TO DR DIVAROBBIE
!

and

HAPPY ORDINATION TO DR GINNY'S MOTHER!

There, I think that covers everything.

Forgive me for not remembering, but is it DAYS OF OUR LIVES some of you watch?  Betsy just found out that little girl Lauren Boles of that show is our sister-in-law's cousin!

Nope, that's not one we commonly talk about. Or, at least, it's not one that I mention.

DR MattH, this is terrible that your debit card is also your credit card. Is that common in the US?  Here we have bank cards and credit cards are something separate. Although i believe you can put your VISA in the bank machine.

Actually it's very convenient (except when an ATM eats your card). Of course, it has been infuriating, but that is the only time it's happened to me in, what, 20 years of having an ATM card. So, that's a pretty good average of working correctly.

The drive up from Richmond which, under normal circumstances, should take about six hours, ended up taking about nine. However, since the holiday traffic was not unexpected, it was a relatively relaxed and stress-free drive back up to New York City.  -My 80Gig iPod also helped a lot too. ;)  *Many Thanks to my friend, Bradley, for being my chauffeur and driver.

And even if the trip back up to New York City had ended up taking 12 hours, I still wouldn't have minded, because...

I spent all evening on LOST. I watched the remaining four episodes. The last one was 87 1/2 minutes, so it was like another entire episode.

I had COMPLETELY forgotten the entire submarine plot point with Sawyer, Juliet, and Kate. I had also forgotten that Mark Pellegrino (who's currently playing Lucifer on SUPERNATURAL this season) played Jacob in the season finale episode.

I got three bonus featurettes watched. The LOST 100 was indeed behind-the-scenes on the 100th episode (the one that featured the Daniel Faraday backstory and the conclusion of his storyline.)

MYSTERIES OF THE UNIVERSE is a faux-investigative ABC series from the early 1980s, and the episode in question of called "The Dharma Initiative" as the reporters try their best to poke around a few scant clues about this mysterious organization. Fairly fun little feature. I also got a chuckle during station identification when ABC advertised "Coming soon -- new show -- MATT HOUSTON."

How well I remember Matt Houston!

And the last featurette I did tonight was one on the complexities of playing with time this season on the show. Cast and crew talk about how hard it has been to keep storylines straight but how much they're having with different hairstyles, clothes, etc.

There is still plenty more to investigate on the bonus feature disc. I count at least 6 more items to watch tomorrow.

For the first time in its history, Portland is under a boil order for its water.  I won't go into detail about this or other tribulations we personally have faced the past few days, but suffice it to say Betsy has said she is about to pray to her G-d that the 10 plagues cease soon.  ;)

Well if youwould just let those people go....

Before we hit the road, we stopped for breakfast.  I was originally thinking of heading back to The Waffle House, but since I also wanted to make one more stop in Carytown, I figured we should eat at someplace in The Fan.  At first, I was thinking that Joe's Inn would be a good place... Then I thought that Can-Can would be good for a petit déjeuner... Then I thought why not try Sidewalk Cafe.  I used to live a few blocks away from there, and had many a weekend breakfast/brunch there.  Also, my favorite waitress in the world - who I've mentioned here on HHW before - also used to work there, and, maybe, just maybe she would be in this morning, well...

As soon as I walked in the door, I saw Edwina behind the bar.  She saw me walk in.  She screamed.  -I think I may have screamed too.  And a few minutes later, we were exchanging a very long overdue hug.  The last time we had seen each other was literally right before I moved to New York City four and a half years ago.  I had my "last" breakfast in Richmond at Sidewalk Cafe.  And, yes, we were both tearing up. Just a little bit.

Over the course of the next hour, and between bites of my huge breakfast - I ordered my favorite, "Cajun Hash" - we caught up on each other's lives.  We also realized that we have known each other for 25 years!  My first restaurant meal in Richmond was at Stella's, where Edwina used to work, and for the next 20 years, I more or less followed her from restaurant to restaurant: Stella's to Joe's Inn to Sidewalk Cafe.  She "adopted" me, I became one of her "babies".  It was nice to see my "mama" again this morning.

She refused to let me pay for our meal this morning, but after a quick run to the store up the street, I did leave her a "tip": two Hershey Bars with Almonds, and two Mr. Goodbars.  :)
