When my public relations office was located on the 7th floor of 6464 Sunset in Hollywood, MoTown was directly across the hall from me.

They were not the nicest of neighbors.

Good morning, al! I had a long dream, perhaps it was two,  that had me either working my old job at the Miami University Library or Barnes & Noble - it's hard to tell now - but it had to do with the three Rodgers & Hart muscals for Helen Ford, "Dearest Enemy," "Peggy Ann," and "Chee-Chee," and collecting research for a restoration. My friend Bruce Pomahac was in the dream as well, and suddenly I was in a structure like the London subway with one of my actresses from community theatre days, Snooky Barton, who was dressed in this outrageous South American costume, then I was in an auditorium, working on "Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living In Paris," and the band kept misbehaving, and the director - who may have been one of my college directors but I'm not sure now - kept telling me to get the band under control. After the performance, he and I were talking about how well the production went and his comment was something like, it's good the band sounded great because they behaved horribly.  I'm sure I knew everyone in the band but I work up and I've now forgotten.

Today, MOST HAPPY FELLA; I need to finish up this show and nake some oney: health insurance is due and next month, estimated taxes. And Christmas, too. Oy!

Good morning!

Our coldest morning of the fall by far. Today was a day of rest from walking, but I'll pick back up with it tomorrow. Still, it's a beautiful late fall day.

It absolutely boggles my mind that Elmer Bernstein never won an Oscar for those brilliant 60s scores of his. Sure, he got one for THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE (for doing what, I'm not quite sure), but the ones he SHOULD have won for never brought him the prize. Sometimes the fates are very cruel.

And speaking of Oscars, LOVE WITH THE PROPER STRANGER is my favorite Natalie Wood performance. I mean, Patricia Neal is wonderful in HUD (I really think it's a supporting role), but the Oscar should have been Natalie's that year for LOVE WITH THE PROPER STRANGER.

Favorite Motown songs:

My first college boy friend and I had a favorite song: "My Guy" sung by Mary Wells. Even though I haven't laid eyes on him since the late 1960s, I think of him every time I hear that song.

Other favorite Motown songs: "You Can't Hurry Love," "You Keep Me Hanging On," "Heat Wave," "My Girl," "I Can't Help Myself."

Today I continue with my LOST marathon work project. I guess they're saving the majority of the bonus features for the last disc in the set. I haven't gotten there yet (obviously), but I'm guessing some of that "Lost University" stuff is going to be BD-Live instead of embedded on the disc. Usually BD-Live isn't even operational until the disc streets for the public, so there's no way to ever review that material. I hope if LU is a BD-Live feature, they've already activated it.

I guess I'll be watching WHITE COLLAR as I eat lunch today. I have two episodes of MONK and the SUPERNATURAL rerun from Thursday night also on the DVR. I probably won't get to those MONK episodes until tomorrow.

Saturday morning greetings!  Richard and I are getting ready to head to Lima this afternoon for rehearsal for tomorrow's ordination service and a festive dinner at the home of the church's senior warden.  Rob is meeting us there, so some travel vibes for him as he drives from Michigan would be appreciated.

I was always hooked by the "My Guy" lyric, things like "I gave my guy my word of honor" rhyming with "And I'm gonna" - loved that

Oy vey department:  our neighbor was evidently strangled.  It had to have been someone very large and strong because Nancy was no shrinking violet--she ran marathons, was on the FPD dragon boat team, etc.  I personally don't think this was random, as her house was not ransacked.

I'm off to buy a new Samsung television.  It lists for $1049, is on sale for $599 and I have almost $200 in coupons and giftcards, so I'll be getting a deal today!

DR JMK, I haven't yet expressed my shock and sorrow about the tragedy in your neighborhood.  We had a suicide down the street from us several years ago at this time and I know how unsettling it can be.

TOD:  one of my favorite unsung Motown writer duos is Lambert and Potter.  They had some minor hits in the mid-1970's, notably "Ashes to Ashes" by the 5th Dimension.  But I have always loved their "Love Music," which had 3 very different recordings by The Four Tops, Paul Revere & the Raiders and (can you guess?) Sergio Mendes & Brasil '77.

Wow, I must say that the CD covers look fantastic! I have not seen either film, nor heard the music, but pre-ordered just because Miyoshi Umeki was on the cover! LOL!
