Then I began watching WHITE CHRISTMAS on AMC-HD. I lasted with it until the first commercial, but honestly it didn't looks as good as the DVD upconverted. Very disappointing. The picture wasn't sharp, color was so-so, and there was color fringing in certain shots.

So, once the movie broke for its first commercial, I put in the DVD and watched the rest of it from the DVD with NO commercial interruptions. It's an old transfer like ON THE TOWN the other day in dire need of an updating. Passable picture and sound, but could be so much better with modern technology.

But such an entertaining movie. I marvel at Vera-Ellen's dancing skill every time I watch this.

I started watching the Rosemary Clooney reminiscences on the disc, but only got about five minutes in and stopped. It's 16 minutes long, so I'll finish it tomorrow.

LOL! Just the party, although the surprise party almost caused a divorce. My sister was so angry at her husband all week, because she thought he didn't give a damn about her retirement. I admire him for sticking it out until today.

I'm back from Carnegie Hall...

It really was a wonderful concert! I actually think this was the first time I've seen the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in person, and it really is quite fascinating to watch them play... without a conductor! (Which is how they normally play.)

The featured soloist for the evening was oboist, Albrecht Mayer, in Richard Strauss' Oboe Concerto. His playing was agile, exciting and lyrical. It was also fascinating seeing how long he could spin out some of those phrases since the writing of the solo part is "infamous" for requiring the use of circular breathing. After the Strauss, he gave a well-deserved and warmly welcomed encore: the slow movement from one of the Bach oboe concertos.

Alas, the snow (and rain) had stopped by the time I left Carnegie, but there was a nice chill in the air. -And walking under the starrily-lit trees at Columbus Circle was a very nice way to end this first wintry evening in NYC.

I'm still here. Since winter is closing in and I got an offer to go back to netflix, I did so. So I was watching the Frank Lloyd Wright bio by Ken Burns. I saw it years ago, but wanted to see it again after going to Taliesin. It was an instant movie on my Roku.

Things have been crazy at work - the Tuesday I only worked 11 hours - but that was because I had to go to The Vixters parent teacher meetings so I had to leave work by 6:30 - every morning Monday thru Thursday I got in before 7:30 - and on Monday I was there until 9, Wednesday until 10:30 and on Thursday I didn't leave until half past midnight

In the afternoon I had my hair done, then collected the Vixter from school and brought her to have her hair done and then drove home to get dressed and then off to collect my parents and we went off to my cousin's daughter's wedding

She is beautiful and was such a lovely bride

we got home after 1:30 AM and then had t be out by 9 because the Vixter had to work the a Christmas craft sale with her youth group

I cruised the sale and picked up a few gifts , then ran some errands in the cold and rain - when I came out of the last store (well I hadn't intended for it to be the last stop of the day but....)

my darn car wouldn't start

fortunately I have AAA -

unfortunately it took them over an hour to get to me and since I was only wearing a thin jacket, I was frozen by time they arrived

fortunately the car started right away with the jump and I was able to get home
