Good morning!

It rained most of the night and it was still raining when I first woke up at 6. By 7:15 when I got out of bed, it had finally stopped, and I was able to take my walk, soggy though it was. The clouds are clearing away nicely right now, and we'll likely have a pretty day here.

I think IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE is one of THE great American films, as good in its way as CASABLANCA or STAGECOACH or ALL ABOUT EVE.

I become a blubbering wreck every time I watch it. I adore Beulah Bondi in the film. Unbelievable that it won NO Oscars in 1946. (It didn't help that it was a box-office failure in its original release.) The magnificent screenplay wasn't even nominated!

More Mel Brooks today with YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN this afternoon and then SILENT MOVIE (which I haven't seen in ages) tonight.

I watched my own copy of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN three or four months ago, but I don't remember enough about the quality and specifics of the transfer to be able to write authoratatively about it without rewatching it today. I don't think I watched any (or many) of the bonus features when I first watched my copy.

I'm not sure I've ever seen It's a Wonderful Life all the way through, either, but I did see clips from it used brilliantly in a presentation about fundraising.  Huge copyright violation, I suspect, but very effective.

It was in the public domain for many years, so maybe not.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And there's no snow here in New York City.  Lots of rain. No snow.

I watched IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE for the first time on afternoon television - decades ago - and was amazed that I didn't know anything about this film, and of course loved it, and told everyone I knew about it....

DR JOSE thanks for the DREAMGIRLS report.  It seems that every production suddenly becomes about those who are doing it rather than the people it's supposed to be about.

I saw a touring company and worked on a local professional production as the choreographer - until the cast told the director they thought they needed a black choreographer - so I left, although when I went to see it, they had kept ALL of the work I had already done which was about everything in the first act.  It was most disheartening - I received no credit except in the "Special Thanks."

DR Julie - Did you find the "touring shows" presentation (surprisingly) moving (too)?

I'm not sure if anyone else watched last night's SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.

*
*
*

I was quite upset that they would not let one of my favorite dancers dance (ashleigh). I get it if she was injured. But her shoulder snapped out and they snapped it back in. They should have taken her for tests immediately.

I get that they need the doctors to advise because otherwise injured dancers would surely compete. But to me if she goes out on this, then they totally ruined things for her!

Btw, two of my favorites got to dance together (mollee and jakob). I thought their first dance was amazing!

DR Jennifer - From what I "understand", her injury occurred right at the top of the day of taping (Monday).  Which meant that it happened before their first rehearsal on stage, their first rehearsal with lights, their first camera-blocking rehearsal, and their final run-thru.  That would have been a lot of strain on her shoulder - even if she did pop it back in.  It could have easily popped back out again - or worse.  She could have also ended up injuring her partner. Even if she had been sent out to a doctor in the meantime, there would have been no way for her to get in a proper rehearsal before the taping started.

Yes, dancers do "dance through the pain", but I think the producers made a very smart - and difficult - decision.

Still volunteering. We have accomplished quite a bit since Monday but we still have much more to do.

It's raining although that's supposed to stop by mid-afternoon. It may deter some of our volunteers.

That's it for now.

Thanks for the update and the pics, DR Ben.  I'm hoping to make it down there tomorrow and/or Friday.

Well, after struggling for nearly two months with a clogged up head, today my nose will not stop running. What the hell?

DR elmore - That just means that your head is finally clearing out.  Literally.  -I think the wet weather today is causing sinus issues for a lot of people, myself included.

I was just thinking.....with more and more time given over by the networks to reality television - there will be fewer and fewer shows available for syndication.

The production companies and networks are saving money on production, but they are manufacturing shows with little or NO resale/syndication value.

How are Jay's numbers doing?

I'm heading down now to continue with the little Photoshop project I started yesterday. Then I'll start making some lunch and finally settle in with YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN after that.

As for "It's A Wonderful Life"....

I finally made it through the whole movie about 10 years ago. I remember catching it in snippets over the years, and we even screened it in during my Junior year Religion class in high school - over the course of three class periods, over three days.  -Not the best thing for continuity.  In any case...

I think it's a good film, but it's not one of my favorites.  However, since it has been a while since I've seen it, I'm wondering - maybe even predicting - that I probably would be able to connect with the film more now than then.  -Or however that's supposed to be phrased grammatically.
