MR BK - my STRANGER/TAMIKO cd arrived today.  And it is glorious!  Elmer Bernstein - nothing more to say.  I enjoyed the notes and the photos....AND the design of the booklet AND the design of the CD proper is most clever and interesting!!!

And the music.  I love STRANGER for the reasons you write about.....but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the score for A GIRL NAMED TAMIKO. I have NOT seen the movie in decades....and only once on late night local television - Channel 6 - The Best of Hollywood - but the performances are unforgettable, and the music has brought back all of the images....half forgotten....they are now half remembered.

THANKS TO MR BK and to KRITZERLAND RECORDS for the RELEASE OF THE YEAR!!

How MANY people did Paramount have to thank - they sort of displayed the Greer Garson syndrome in their portion of the booklet, methinks.

Tommorow is a long day for me with double services in the morning, an afternoon rehearsal and another service, and then the choir Christmas party in the evening.

On the way to our celebration dinner at Montgomery Inn we passed a church with a sign advertising their "drive-through living Nativity."  That just seems wrong to me.

as wrong as that seems i curious how it works.  do you drive down the driveway and look into a widow to see the living nativity & what the heck is a "living" nativity...people performing?

DR Jane - a living Nativity is kind of a tableau with real people.  I've seen it done very effectively and I've seen some really cheesy ones.  We didn't fully explore the drive-through, but I think it's probably set up on the church grounds and you drive by various scenes.  Could be pretty uncomfortable for the actors if it's cold and snowy.

I was part of a "living" nativity when I was a youngster in the Congregational church in Palos Verdes.  We presented eight or so "tableau" - including camels! - which the attendees strolled past.  With the weather in Los Angeles, you can do that kind of thing.

(I was a little beggar boy with a dirty face dressed in a burlap sack.)

Sorry, DR DAW, I don't think we'll make a special trip back to Cincinnati to see it and I know for sure that Richard won't be proposing such a thing to his Anglican congregation during tomorrow's trustees' meeting!

This afternoon Sandra and I saw "Little House on the Prairie, the Musical" on the Broadway Across America Tour.

Did this ever or will it ever play on Broadway?

It's never played on Broadway, and there are no announced plans for it to do so as of right now.  It did play at the nearby major regional theater The Paper Mill Playhouse in Milburn, New Jersey earlier this year.

Did you enjoy it?

No it has not played on Broadway. It started life out of town at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis. It received mixed reviews. They spent some time re-working it and then it played at the

Papermill Playhouse

earlier this year. It's now on an extended tour around the country. It may play very near New York but I doubt it will come to Broadway. The reviews after the re-working were not strong enough to easily raise the money needed for a Broadway run. It's doing OK business on the road and they probably don't feel the need to come to Broadway. It may happen in the future but if it's selling on the road why bring it to someplace where it may get picked apart.

After Miss Julie

 ;D    ;D

And speaking of After Miss Julie, I understand the Tony Eligibility Committee just ruled that AMJ will be eligible in the Best Revival category, rather than as a new play.  WASSUP with that?  It never played anywhere in the US before.

I was very disappointed craig didn't do the walk from graduate school, i wanted to go to pittsburg again.

I did do the graduate school walk, but I didn't get quite the same thrill from it that I did from undergraduate school. I guess because I took a great many of my masters degree courses off campus AND I never lived on campus at all, so the school didn't have the same meaning for me that undergraduate school did.

I spent three hours of my evening with THE WATCHMEN. There were quite a few gaping plot holes in the story, but I still managed to enjoy it all right. Not a great superhero movie, but there were some interesting characters among the "heroes." In a way, it was kind of a darker version of THE INCREDIBLES.

I was going to see what material was on-line for its BD-Live presentation, but after five minutes of loading and nothing had come up, I just took the disc out of the player.
