I am expecting three Fox Blu-ray releases this week (500 DAYS OF SUMMER, ALL ABOUT STEVE, and the FAMILY GUY parody of STAR WARS). Next week will come the GLEE box on DVD.

In other words, my days off will likely come to an end this week. I've loved the time off, but I'm ready to get back to work.

I guess I'll head down and get to bed early as I can read a bit before going to bed. (And, no, Michael Shayne, I'm not taking your advice. This has been my routine for at least forty years.)

Good night.

since he doesn't have a shovel he will have to wait for the snow to melt before driving again.

I think he should go out tomorrow and get a shovel. That snow is not gonna melt.

for now he can't get anywhere to get a shovel, even the trains are closed.  at least they have power and plenty of food.  they sounded very happy to be snowed in.

The car is snowed in, dear Jenny, dear Jenny
Snow piled deep, dear Jenny, drive we can not.

Clear it off, my good man, clear it all off
Make the snow begone, dear man, gone snow

With what shall I clear it, dear Jenny
With what shall I clear it, with what?

With a shovel, good man, with a shovel old chap
With a shovel, good man – shove it!

Where can I get one…..

At the store…

How can I get there….

In your car…

The car is snowed in….

...how silly to take the light weight person off & leave the hefty one.  no wonder there were problems with the train.

Well, since the heavy one was the train's driver, taking him off would probably cause even more problems.

Besides, the guy would then be guilty of public self-ejection - most unseemly.

Well the  tree is up thask to Vixdasd - he brougjht it in the house yesterday morning.  Itis a 7 foot prelit tree that comes in three sections.   I put teh first section together and plugged it on but  no lights lit - Vix dad said he would take a lok a it so I went out to do my chores - mailed all the Christmas cards , finished the Christmas gift shopping , filled my gas tank, went grocery shopping , stopped at the dollar store for boxes and bags and tissue paper and finally drove home through a light snow.

Vixdad had fixed the bottom tier of the tree - he had to replace over thirty bulbs!! (Biy am I glad I was out of thehouse while that chore was going on!) and put thr rest of the tree together and put the big tree box back up in the garage loft while I was out

which reminds me - last Christmas Skip advised me on the proper way to cook my prime ribs - and they came out beautifully - unfortuately I cannot remember the details

I believ I brought the meat to room temperature before cooking and then cooked in a low oven for a certain period of time and then finished by searing in pan - but I am not sure about the oven temperature and the length of time - and did I sear before or after the roasting period?

Cooking Tips are greatly appreciated!!

By Saturday night we were well and truly snowbound - although not as badly snowbound as these poor people on a train right here in town.

A train that came out of Penn was stuck at Deer Park (diesel running on the Ronkonkoma Branch), and it encountered a huge snowdrift there, and couldn't go further. It was stuck there from 1 or 2 in the morning until 8 AM.  No heat.  No food - no working pottys...

They must have been absolutely miserable

This morning I took one look out of the window and decided that we would not be attending church this morning  Vixdad took hoi ssnowblower out for a spin and got the front walk and the drivewalk and the sidewalk cleared.  The he decided to do our neighbors driveway before digging out the  back yard. The snow blower sheared a bolt and stopped working so our backyard is still covered with drifts of up to 4 feet

We cannot actually open the back door because there is about three feet of snow piled up against it

Until Fred returns, consider this:

OCHEF

Quote

...
First, they sear all sides of the meat in a hot skillet on top of the stove. They season the roast with a little salt and pepper, place it on a rack in a roasting pan and slip it into a 200°F oven, where it cooks until it reaches an internal temperature of 110°F (45°C). At that point, they turn the oven up to 500°F and continue cooking until the internal temperature of the meat reaches 130°F (55°C), which should take only 10 or 15 minutes more.

Raising the temperature after most of the cooking is done gives you a deep brown crust very fast, Corriher says, because protein- and sugar-laden juices that came to the surface during cooking evaporated, leaving a high concentration of proteins and sugars that brown quickly.
...

I hate it when the power goes out.......

A weird thing happened this morning...I lost power for a time (I don't know how long).  I woke up when the power came on and my printer started up.  Fortunately, I didn't have anything set on my DVR to record overnight, so I didn't miss that.  I just had to reset ALL of my electric clocks. :P The weird part is that I have no idea how it happened.  There were no reports in the local paper (in the on-line version, at least) and the weather is fine.  The day has been a bit rainy (it's 52°F right now), but otherwise, perfectly fine.  Not that it really matters, but I'll try to talk to our property manager tomorrow.

Then I watched THE HANGOVER on Blu-ray. Nutty, farcical, completely enjoyable film. Bradley Cooper is to die for, Ed Helms is a riot, Justin Bartha (from the NATIONAL TREASURE movies) is precious but not in nearly enough of the fillm.

THE HANGOVER is one of those comedies which I thought I would hate, but ending up really liking it.  I mean REALLY liking it.  It's a great little comedy.

that is what i keep hearing.  i hope we agree once it finally arrives from netflix.

This is in my Netflix queue, also. :)

This is what I saw when I looked outside.  The deer eating from the bird feeder is a little hard to see. She wouldn't stand still for her photo op

The bird feeder is about 8 inches from the window.
