I bought some bags of unshelled peanuts and added several to the squirrel bowls today.  One squirrel has spent the morning picking them up one by one and burying them in various places around the yard and through the fence.

no. he is good on lease, if other dogs don't want to play with him.  those other playful dogs, on or off leash, is where i get into the danger zone.

DR JRand - we had some tired unshelled mixed nuts that we put out for the squirrels not long ago.  We laughed because they seemed not to like the Brazil nuts, either!

I'd have to put Red Cliff at the top of my list - but I don't think I've seen more than five or six movies this year.

Post office wasn't too bad, so I got the two packages shipped.  But the LA drivers, already insane by definition, are in a whole other world now.  An SUV literally just swerved (veered) into my lane almost creaming me - I swerved to my left (thankfully I could) and avoided the collision and this peckerhead didn't care or perhaps wasn't even aware of how stupidly she was driving.

Semi-random question:

Is "Song of Norway", the movie, available (again) on DVD?

*Although, as my friend, Eric, pointed out, maybe Pauline Kael's original review may have fated its current unavailability:

"Self-parody is built into operettas and is part of their innocent, campy charm. But this one isn't authentic kitsch of the Wiener-schnitzel variety, it isn't a dated crowd-pleaser squeezed for the remaining box-office juice; it's second-generation kitsch--an imitation operetta, on the joys and tribulations of Edvard Grieg's life, that combines the worst of THE SOUND OF MUSIC with the worst of A SONG TO REMEMBER and SONG WITHOUT END. Even if you're prepared for dirndls and roguish smiles you're not likely to be ready for the distorted sound, the pasty, pudgy faces, and the bewildering use of dance as if it were mood music. (When the picture isn't showing you waterfalls, flaxen-haired dancers go leaping by--a few frames at a time--to maintain a frolicsome Norwegian mood.) The movie is of an unbelievable badness; it brings back clichés you didn't know you knew--they're practically from the unconscious of moviegoers. You can't get angry at something this stupefying; it seems to have been made by trolls."

I'm currently watching "Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey" on OvationTV.  Besides some of the great footage of Theremin playing, it's also been fun looking at the "background", as they drive through parts of early 1990's New York City, especially Times Square(!).

I would have loved to have heard Doris' renditions of those SOUTH PACIFIC songs, but I think she might have photographed too old for the role (I know: that didn't stop Glenn CLose, but that's different). Nellie is SUPPOSED to be late teens, early 20s, isn't she? Mitzi wasn't that young either, but her petite size and youthful demeanor were helpful in the masquerade.

I watched another MENTALIST episode while I ate my snack. This was the one where Patrick is temporarily blinded by a car bomb, and at the worst possible time since the bomber has him next on his list to kill. CBS recently repeated this episode and I watched it, but it is such a thrilling episode and Simon Baker does such a good job as the blind Patrick (was this the episode he submitted for his Emmy nomination?) that I watched it again and enjoyed it.

I spent much of the rest of the afternoon with ALL ABOUT STEVE. It's a strained, witless farce comedy with unlikable (or at best irritating) characters, and it wastes a dynamite cast (Bullock, Thomas Haden CHurch, Bradley Cooper, Ken Jeong, DJ Qualls, Howard Hesseman, Kerry Kinney-Silver) on really trite material. Very disappointing (though Bradley Cooper is just luscious to look at. But that's ALL he is here, there's really no character.)

Whew!

My flight out of LGA was delayed by several hours, so I knew before taking off that I would miss my connection in Charlotte. The gate agent at LGA said I would have to pick up my bag in Charlotte and then check it to Atlanta the next day.

We landed in Charlotte about 11:30 and then I waited..and waited...and waited...and while some of the bags came off, mine didn't. After being dismissed by several luggage guys and standing in several lines, I learned that my bag was probably checked on through to Atlanta on a plane flying the next day.

Since we had to check our carry-ons and retrieve them on the cold tarmac, no gate agent welcomed us or offered us hotel vouchers. (The airport was pretty deserted at that hour.) But I figured even 3 or 4 hours away from the airport was worth it and called for the Days Inn Shuttle, waiting more out in the cold (I had packed all my cold weather clothes in my suitcase thinking I was just going to pop off the plane and into Greg's car!) and was able to have four hours there and get 3 hours of sleep.

But finally...I'm back home ad getting ready to start tweaking what we did in NY before sending to the producer, which I will have to do tomorrow so he can get it before Xmas.

And THEN I get to start Xmas shopping. Thankfully, my DH has already stepped up to the plate and begun the process. We average about 50 people on our list but I think we will be dramatically cutting down this year!

MattH, I liked your airport. But U.S. Air...well...the shuttle driver calls them "Useless Air" and I can see why!

I had time to get through all of the bonus features, too. There was one good feature: Kerry Kinney-Silver plays a Hollywood gossip columnist snooping around the set looking for a dishy scoop. (She plays a schoolteacher in the actual film; this was done especially for the video release). The ad-libbing and improv is pretty good.

I love that film! The director, Steve Martin, showed it at a festival and brought along a theremin for us all to play. We also got to meet Robert Moog, which was very cool!

It's a nice mid-range city airport. Yes, USAir has its hub here, but there are always unending problems with them.

I did have time to skim through today's ONE LIFE TO LIVE. I loved seeing Oliver even in the tiny little bits they gave him to do today. Ah, that baby plotline is obviously going to be the next one he and Kyle will have to cope with once they get past Nick's machinations.
