This is true, Cillaliz. I hope she's ok.

Cal missing her meds is really why I decided to try to get home.

Of course.  VIBES SHE CONTINUES TO BE FINE!

i was also glad you didn't mention you were driving home until after you had safely arrived.

So was I!  We would have been very nervous for you had we known in advance.  But I'm glad you were able to get home to take care of Callie.

Channel 13 is showing a wonderful new film version of LA BOHEME with Anna Nebtrebko at the moment. It's a really beautiful production.

I saw the last half hour or so, and completely enjoyed it.

Good Afternoon! Good Evening!

Well... Instead of heading out to brunch earlier, I ended up going to church with my mom, my brother, Mike, and his kids.  Then after church, we stopped at McDonald's, 7-11 and a Chinese restaurant for a semi- sorta- progressive lunch.  Then I headed to Sidewalk Cafe for a late brunch with my favorite waitress in the world, Edwina. -I did not partake of any of the food from McD's, 7-11 or the Chinese restaurant.

After Sidewalk, I made stops at For the Love of Chocolate and Bev's Ice Cream in Carytown.  FtLoC had tons of holiday candies, chocolates and other treats marked 50%, so... :)  And one of the special Flavors of the Day at Bev's was Bananas Foster. YUM!

Then home.  Then a nap.  Then some more family pics.  -Some friends of the family had dropped by on their way down from DC to North Carolina.  And now... Dinner somewhere with Steve... Since he burned what he had originally planned to have at home. ;)

DTM - thanks for sharing those great close-up photos of your Christmas Village and Nativity scenes.  How wonderful that you have this tradition dating back so many years.  I assume your parents had started the collection and you grew up with it being a part of your annual Christmas tradition?

DR Jane - My mom has a "card" because of her heart valve, and it actually helps her get through the security screening faster.  She presents it right at the initial ID check, and they pull her aside right there - usually bypassing the "regular" lines.  -Get the card.

DR TCB, i also wonder if it would help to get the card. One would think it should. But wouldn't the screeners know?

I think i would get one.

Since the screener told me that it wouldn't speed up or change the process by having a card; it seemed a bit pointless.

Sunday evening greetings!  We had a smooth trip to Lima today and pretty low attendance at church.  Rob and Mary Linda were there and then she went on home to Michigan after lunch.  Rob came back here with us to help a bit with my mom's moving prep and to visit with my cousin and his family who are arriving tomorrow (staying at the "home" in a guest house, not with us).  ML will be back mid-week for the New Year holiday.

I found the fastest way to get through airport security was to be pushing a white-haired 88-year-old woman (my mother) in a wheelchair and being followed by white-haired 64-year-old woman (my sister) who was limping along in a knee brace.  We got great treatment.

Finally finished with all the addressing and postage.  It took about an hour longer than usual because of the two CDs at once - we had to devise a way to notate each package, since some ordered one copy of one or one copy of the other, and some ordered both, and some ordered two of one and one of the other - very complicated this time, but it's done.  I also went and looked at this black Infinity G37 Journey I found on Craig's List.  It was literally five minutes from here.  It's a luxury car dealership and I gather their deal is that they have people who go online and find repos or liens or auctions or whatever.  This car is in cherry condition, not a mark on it.  It's a 2009 with only 711 miles.  The guy who runs the jernt bought it for his sister but she ended up wanting a BMW so he's selling this.  They got it in October, and whoever originally purchased it got it in May.  We test drove it and it's great.  I've only had one other black car and it's not a color I would normally choose.  When I talked to the guy on the phone I asked if he could talk about doing a little better and he said he didn't like to negotiate and that he felt the price was fair - it's got the premium stereo package and all that stuff (though no navigation system).  I then asked him again about the price and he ended up coming down a thousand bucks, which makes this VERY tempting.  I don't think I'd do better on a 2009 with virtually almost no mileage.  I told him I'd get back to him at noon tomorrow, which gives me time to go to Glendale and check out their cars and prices and, of course, I'll have the printout of this particular deal, along with a couple of other comps.

Then I watched 8 1/2 on Blu-ray. The image is pretty astonishing with only one black scratch and one small transition where things went a little weird image-wise. I hadn't watched my DVD in quite some time, but this will definitely take its place.

DR Matt H -- you're post inspired me to dig out my DVD of 8 1/2 and watch it again, this time with the commentary turned on.  Most  interesting.  It adds so much to the appreciation of the film -- really assists in understanding the images, symbolism, and foreshadowing in a way I've never really seen or understood before.  So thank you!

Did you give us a food report yesterday, Ron Pulliam?

I surely don't recall, Laura.  Yesterday...???  Hmmm.  I know that one night recently I grilled two filet mignons.  My mom baked potatoes and tossed a salad.  It was GOOD eats.

Today for lunch:  Pot Roast, green beans, potatoes/carrots/onions in a gravy made from pot roast drippings, and biscuits.

For supper:  Vegetable soup with chicken and beef...and corn bread.

Oh, yes....yesterday...car buying day:  We had sandwiches for lunch and pizza for supper.   Purely a day for "fast-type food".  We were both whupped.

It took nearly four hours to buy that darned SUV.

It's an Academy Membership card, JMK, that gives you access to all screeners for Oscar contenders.

Not.

It's a card from his doctor for airport security screeners...lets them know why he's setting off the alarms when he goes through security checkpoints.   Fact is, you can give them a card, but they check anyway.

I watched 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY on Blu Ray last night - and has been mentioned and reported here - it is a most wonderful Blu Ray disk.  I am glad I purchased it, even though I have it on regular DVD.  Much better picture and some great extras.

Amazon is still selling the Blu Ray for $9.49! Who knows how long that price will last!  It is quite the bargain.

And now I am off to work.

Thanks for the sterling recommendation.  I shall procure this title before the price goes up again.

i'm glad you were treated as well as expected under the circumstances.  it will be a long while before i can go through security.  i think i need to be able to raise my arm for the check first.

I've been nosing around on the Internet and Craig's List for Infiniti and found a small dealer literally five minutes from here - in fact, I've jogged by it many times over the last couple of years.  They have a 2009 black four-door with 741 miles at a very nice price - full warranty, etc.  I'm sure they'll come down off that price, too, maybe by 1K or 1500K.  If they did, I'd have to consider that strongly.  In fact, I may stop there before going to the Glendale dealer tomorrow at eleven, to see what their best price is, because it wouldn't hurt to have that info with me for Glendale.

Car buying vibes to bk! I always have great luck buying cars at the end of the year when dealers want to get them off the lot to avoid paying tax on them. Bet you get a great deal!
