In other news - it's pouring rain.  The new motor car is nice and dry in the garage environment, and I think I'll do the shipping of the packages in the old motor car or in the helper's car.

DR JOSESPIANO mentioned Tabitha's Salon Takeover - I was watching it last night, too - but had to turn it off.  Tabitha was visiting a salon in Chicago's Boys' Town....and the guys working there were mostly unskilled and I wouldn't let any of them cut my hair - and I don't even have much.

Yes, MR BK - I remember your musings on The Brothers Smothers....this new book is most interesting.  And as the years have gone by.....and even at the time - I had the boys mixed up and thought that it was Dick who was causing all the trouble....turned out to be the older brother Tom - who played the younger brother in the boys' act....  Tom's dealings with CBS were most interesting, and the network really did try to work with them, until Tom decided he was bigger than CBS....  He wasn't.

Okay - so here's a question for BK: have you ever eaten a goose??

I believe the answer to that question would be no.

But have you ever cooked your goose??

Good morning, everyone.

Yes, it is raining in LA. I saw it in the forecast, but it just didn't look like rain to me. Perhaps I need to clean my weather window--or my glasses.

DD gets quite restless when he hasn't had a walk, so I walked him in the rain. He also tends to chew something up when I leave for a few hours. So far it hasn't been anything of any significance, thankfully.

It is laundry day here, as well. Plus, a work day. I am at present procrastinating. HHW is an excellent way to procrastinate.

I have been beseiged with much anecdotal musings about kidney stones over the past few days.  I feel like I'm in a very exclusive club.  Not.  ;)  I did pick up some Cranberry juice mixes (I can't stand cranberries, so I need to have the flavor masked with something else).  I'm currently having some cranberry-raspberry concoction that isn't half bad.  Unfortunately, it isn't half good either.

I am now more convinced than ever that I've been dealing with apparently very small stones for years, as my kidneys since yesterday have had the same dull aching, slightly numb feeling I get once or twice a year.  I am assuming this is residual pain from the stones.  Who knows when I will be able to see the urologist--every time I call, they place me on hold, and it has been a nightmare to try to get the ER records to them.

I heard that buying a new house and moving is supposed to mask the symptoms of kidney stones.

Good Afternoon!

Alas... No Ragtime for me.  The matinee was sold out, and I did not win the ticket lottery.  Ah, well.

However, while I was waiting in front of the Neil Simon for my name (not) to be drawn, I did run into two of my dear friends from DC who are in the cast of Ragtime.  So, even though I did not get to see them in the show, I'm very glad I had a chance to briefly chat with them, give them a good hug, and wish them well.

I - and my doctor - came to same conclusion last year (or was that already two years ago?).  In any case...

Yes, it can take a while for some of the residual pain to recede.  It can also mean that there are still some smaller stones aggravating things.  However, it does sound like the "biggie" has passed.  -Thankfully, I never had a "biggie".

As for cranberry juice, yes, it can help.  However, depending on exactly what is causing the kidney stones - like if they're due to some sort of low-level infection - cranberry juice can have little to no effect.  In some cases, it can actually make the situation worse. -Which is why a urinalysis is important.

I have completed my sparkling new arrangement of Blame it on the Bossa Nova for my upcoming Pops session.  I must say Ms. Eydie Gorme is rather shrill on her higher notes in her hit version and I'm frankly surprised her producer let that version hit the market, though of course it was one of her biggest hits, so what do I know?  I'm sure JR prefers Annette's rendition.

Do Broadway conductors wear black tie?

It depends on the show, and/or the time of day (matinee v. evening).  Some shows just require black clothes, others do require black tie/tuxedo.  However, some "black tie" shows do allow the conductor to wear a nice black suit or dressy black shirt for matinees.  In most cases, it's conductor's choice, taste.

However, if the production does require the musicians to wear "black tie", then, in most cases, the musicians are able to place their tuxes and dresses in with the wardrobe department weekly dry-cleaning.

The suspicious van has been deemed safe.

Yes, it has.  Although, the reports of fake police tags on the van are a bit unsettling.  -If said reports turn out to be true.

*And when I was just down there, it didn't really seem like "anything" going on.

Indeed....Senorita Funicello's version es muy bueno.....Senora Lawrence's version - no tanto.

There is a lovelier than lovely interview with Liz Callaway in the current [Jan/Feb '10] issue of Cabaret Scenes magazine.  Alas, the interview is not online.
