Well, you've read the notes, the notes were minty fresh, and now it is time for you to post until the newly minted cows come home.

It will be my first day back at the office after 22 days of vacation!

I just finished oatmeal with walnuts and blueberries and a cup of coffee and now it's time for a shower and then back to the grindstone.

Later, gaters.

Sushi is great. Just drop it in the traps, and you can catch a lot of crawdads with it.

I only wish that we could get some good, reasonably priced sushi here in Austin.

Good morning, all! First up today, a trip to the post office and then to work on the songwriter's concert next Monday night. Yesterday, the songwriter and Joshie were looking for a bass player and my friend Kirk Bailey has now been hired to do the show. I'm taking the next two days off from my Herbert/Kern work to get my half of the show written. It's a small group: piano, bass, drums, and cello; it won't take long.

I'm having a holiday dinner with my friends Alice and Cathie tonight, so at some point this morning I need to run up to 85th Street and pick up a Victoria's Secret gift certificate for Alice. At three o'clock my friend Jesse's coming over to sell me a ticket to a concert of Mozart's MAGIC FLUTE in which he's singing Papageno, the comic lead. At some point, and I hope it's earlier than later, UPS is hopefully delivering a package.

I've had my oatmeal and I'm off to the Post office.

Ugh...first of all, what in the world am I doing up so early and second of all, what is it exactly that I am suppose to be doing here...

Yes, I am back at work for the first time in a month.  And I am not at all happy about it.  I seriously think it's time I thought about a career change.

TOD:

Hmmm...I eat sushi when it's put down in front of me, but I'm no connoisseur of it and and I probably could not tell a shrimp roll from a non-shrimp roll.  To tell the truth, I much rather eat liverwurst.

A few nice things waited for me in the office this morning: a cute and funny Christmas card from DR George and a beautiful calendar and card from DR Tomovoz.

I can't wait for August 20--it's Borroloola Show Day!

What's also strange about being back at the office is that I am no longer an employee of this company.  My particular development team has been what they now call rebadged (or, as they used to call it, outsourced.)  The people on my team now work for another company and are considered contractors.  I will continue to do the same exact kind of work and on the same exact project, but someone else will be paying me (and charging me a heck of a lot more for medical benefits.)  Also, once they create the space for us in their office, we will no longer work in this office in Philly but in the new company's headquarters in Conshohocken, PA.  I am not too keen on that, either...

I guess I'm the exception here, because I love sushi/sashimi and the freshness of the various fish. I love a slab of fatty tuna and the sweetness of some raw shirmp as much as I enjoy a juicy steak. Why? I can't begin to describe the sensuous nature of the textures of the various forms of seafood as you slowly chew them or the flavors that unfold. I've spent way too much on it in my life. It's an expensive habit, and one that, if you haven't acquired, your wallet will be grateful if you stayed away. (That also means more for me.)

I don't eat sushi that often. But i really like it.  I do like the rolls and stuff with rice better than the raw stuff.

Here we have some buffets that also serve sushi.  But we also have restaurants where for a fixed price you can have as much sushi as you can eat.

Good morning!

The deep freeze continues, and it felt colder this morning than yesterday. But, I changed jackets and gloves and sweat pants so that may have had something to do with it. And no let-up in this all week. COld, cold, cold.

TOD:

I was dating a restaurant critic for awhile, and one of the restaurants he reviewed was a new Japanese restaurant where sushi was a big part of the menu. (Fortunately for me, they had some regular Japanese cuisine, too, so I didn't end up having to go hungry.) Of course, I had never had sushi before, but he insisted I try it, and I sampled four or five different things. I didn't like any of it. Just not for me at all.

I just got another Criterion review set: Chantel Ackerman in the Seventies. I don't think I've seen any of the five movies in this Eclipse set. That's three HUGE box sets from Criterion for the month. Wow!

I'm still expecting CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN 2 on Blu-ray at some point this week (I did see the first one but not the sequel). And I found out last night I'll be reviewing THE SIMPSONS's 20th season on Blu-ray when it comes out, I think next week.

Nothing for me on TV tonight, but there are some shows that are having new episodes, and, of course, the new season of THE BACHELOR begins, too.

I'll be working on THE MARINE 2 on DVD today (which will make for a very easy day), and if CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN 2 doesn't come in tomorrow morning, I'll probably go ahead and start on the DVD set of CHE even though it doesn't come out until the 19th of January.
