Good Evening, again.

DR Cillaliz - Glad to read that things went so swimmingly today.  -And I did have a nice visit.  Although, I have to admit, that even though I was only down there for four days, spending New Year's Eve and New Year's Day in Richmond really made it feel like it was a much longer visit than just four days.  -Which isn't such a bad thing.

I dropped pages off to muse Margaret and shall wait on pins and needles and also needles and pins until she calls, which will probably be tomorrow.  I had some dinner, and now I'll try to write a couple more pages, since I'd only had time to do three today.  I think the weekends are going to be when I'm most able to do the bigger page counts, but I'm so far ahead of where I normally am it's actually fine to have only done three today.

Just caught the end of COME AND GET IT.  Frances really was magnificent, that's all I can say.

And as for the Topic of the Day...

I tend to like it all, and I do have to say that once you had some premium-grade, top-of-the-line, properly prepared sushi, there really is no going back. Well, yes, you can go "back", but there really is nothing like truly fresh fish (raw or cooked for that matter).

I also like eel (unagi) which is traditionally served cooked, lightly broiled.  As for the raw stuff, I'm partial to tuna: toro and otoro (fatty tuna) and hamachi (yellowtail).  I also like the tofu skins that are stuffed with seasoned rice, inarizushi.

never partook (such a word?) in Itunes radio selections. Something for everyone. Right now listening to some relaxing music

DR Michael S - Yes, "partook" is a word.

I was very nervous putting THE SHOW OF SHOWS in the Blu-ray upconverting player (though upconverting these Archive titles is pretty ridiculous; I don't have anything now except upconverting players).

Within seconds of the titles coming up, I paused the disc and there it was - 2 hours, 3 minutes running time.

What a relief!

The movie is a much duller grab bag of musical numbers and comedy than HOLLYWOOD REVUE OF 1929. Stars are much less glamorous and what they're given to do is much less interesting.

Nice to see Bea Lillie for a couple of moments. Richard Barthlemiss looked nice and had a nice speaking voice. John Barrymore was among the better items in the show doing a soliloquy from HENRY VI. My favorite, however, was Winnie Lightener (sp?) who put lots of pep and verve into her two songs including the one hit to emerge from the movie - "Singin' in the Bathtub."

The two-strip Technicolor sequence that turned up a few years ago was in place and looked wonderful. Myrna Loy was featured in it.

After that, I watched another NCIS episode from last season's box set. This was the one where Tony had to unravel a mistaken arrest from three years ago. The mystery was OK, but I found the ending a little unsatisfying.

If CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN 2 on Blu-ray doesn't come tomorrow, I'll go ahead and start on CHE. With no appointments tomorrow, I should be able to watch the first part in the afternoon and the second part in the evening.

I'll be doing the DVD set first. That Chantel Akerman five film set that came today is also being released on January 19th, so I'll start on those films later in the week or the weekend. It's that Fox Blu-ray that keeps me from firming up my viewing schedule since I never know when the discs will arrive.

The only thing worse that a show called "the Conveyor Belt of Love" is the fact I started watching it!  I am now turning the channel

Finishing up a few computer chores and then I'll be heading down early and going to bed.

Good night!

I've finished nothing but seem to have been busy all day.

I had a busy day, too. I went bird watching. Our best birds today were a bald eagle and a pair of Harris' hawks.

I was watching birds, too but they were birds at the natural history museum and they were stuffed. I was visiting my friend Mark who works there. He's currently redoing the whole planet/science area; a 2 mil project. It was interesting to hear him discuss hydraulic robotic arms with a colleague. They have to used them because it's the only way to reach Uranus. I asked what was wrong with Uranus, and he told me that Uranus has a crack in it. I was thinking that JRand would appreciate the conversation.

Just had a lovely dinner with DR FJL and DR Julie at one of my old hangouts, Zuni. They used to have jazz on Monday nights, but no more, alas. But in a way it was good because we had more opportunity for sparkling conversation! It was great to see them both.. I was sorry to miss you, DR Jose, but probably better for you to get home and fight your cold!

Oh!

So... I was contacted today by the folks at Zagat regarding the prize I won a few weeks ago from/with/through their Zagat Photo Contest.  They requested my address and phone number, and said they would be mailing my sparking prize to me once they had said information.  I emailed them the requested information, and they emailed me back to confirm that they had received my information, and that they had sent my prize off this afternoon... Via FedEx Three-Day service... And that I should have it Thursday.  Well...

The Zagat offices are located at Columbus Circle - 59th Street. I live at 146th Street. Or just two stops away from their offices on the express train. Or probably even just an "automatic" overnight via the USPS.  -I'm guessing I may get a knock on my door from the FedEx driver tomorrow morning, but, for some reason, I'm thinking FedEx may just go ahead and take the three days to send it 87 blocks north.  We shall see.  ::)

Oh, that's great news! That planet area is really showing it's age and wear and tear.  -As are some of the other galleries in there.  It looks much nicer in "Night at the Museum". ;)

I'm sorry I missed you this time round too, DR edisaurus.  However, I do believe, just heading right back here to my apartment and taking it easy was the best thing to do tonight.  I'm feeling a lot better, and my head is a lot clearer too.  I guess it was just the sudden cold-snap down in Richmond that done did me in.

I'm also sorry that I missed dining with DRs FJL and Julie too.  Guess we'll just have to plan another HHW-NYC-Contigent Get-Together sometime sooner rather than later.

Until later!

Dinner was very lovely.  We had wonderful service and food, and the conversation was indeed sparkling (and somewhat punny).   It was really great to get to spend some time with DR Edisaurus.  We had only met, very briefly, at the opening performance of Brain From Planet X, so this was a real treat to get to sit down to a nice dinner and have a good chat.  I love meeting DRs in person.

375 people have accessed my Farmer article since TCM showed COME AND GET IT.  That's probably about everyone who watched the film, I'd reckon.  ;)

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if they did something silly like fly to your package to a main sorting facility in Atlanta for putting on a plane back to NY.
