My last day of my loooong weekend and I am watching episodes of THE GERTRUDE BERG SHOW (aka: MRS. G GOES TO COLLEGE).

What a sweet little comedy this show was. I have not gotten through a single epiosode without a tear or a lump in my throat, and some laughs. Did any HHWers watch this show when it originally aired?

Jane, the special features include an interesting interview with Emma Watson, who plays Pauline.

i'll be sure to watch it.  do you think keith will enjoy this or shall i watch on my own?  he isn't a fan of ballet.

Jane, you absolutely do NOT need to be a ballet fan. There's actually very little ballet in it. It's about family and ambitions and growing up in difficult circumstances. A beautiful and charming story.

Well, I found some lunch/dinner to take with me--a pre-packeged sandwich from Amy's Breads (since LGA has pretty poor offerings) and am now ready to pack up the computer and schlep everything back down the 4 flights of stairs and over to 6th Avenue. That, I hope, will be the worst part of the trip!

See you in Atlanta, and thanks to all the HHWers for their hospitality! Hope to see you all again soon!

Hoosier Monkey did not get out today - but perhaps he may do something around the house later.

I watched CHEYENNE AUTUMN which is a strange movie.....what with Elizabeth Allen running around in her bloomers for no particular reason.....except of course to set up a very funny joke - James Stewart has denied ever meeting her before, but when she ends up on the floor of his buggy in her bloomers with her feet around his neck he says: "By golly, I did meet this girl in Wichita!"

The farther along the Indians got on the trail, the less makeup Carroll Baker wore....and the MORE makeup Dolores Del Rio wore.  And Karl Malden was completely unrestrained and outrageous in his role....difficult to watch.

Way back when, Sal Mineo told me that working on this film was one of the biggest disappointments of his career.  He said that Ford had totally lost it.  He said that he would miss shots and that, more often than not, his assistants were covering for him, trying to see that he didn't make any major mistakes.

Hmmm.... so MAD magazine's parody CHEYENNE AWFUL wasn't too far off the marK? (I've never seen the film, so I'm just speculating).

I got busy on the computer and only had time to watch a MENTALIST episode while I ate lunch. It was the one with the sky diver whose parachute was tampered with and who plunged to his death. This was an enjoyable outing but with one of the easiest to solve mysteries of the first season.

I spent the next two hours and eighteen minutes watching CHE on the Criterion DVD. The story is non-linear in this first film as we go back and forth between the Cuban Revolution and Che at the UN in 1964 making a speech and being interviewed.

Knowing very little about the revolution and its progress during its two years in length, the war scenes were fascinating. The film did not seem nearly 128 minutes long.

I hope the second half is equally engrossing.

I listened to about 30 minutes of the commentary. A very learned biographer of Che does it, and he fills in lots of things about the man's life that was skipped in the back-and-forth storytelling of part one. Another great Criterion commentary that gives added value to the package.

There was also the theatrical trailer for the movie on disc one.

I did have time to speed through both soaps today. Luke and Noah wereon ATWT and it was a bittersweet meeting to be sure. Noah going to Dallas seems to signal that character's exit from the show. We'll see. They were not in the previews for tomorrow, of course.

There were a couple of very brief glimpses of Oliver on OLTL today, but just in the background.

Guess I'll write for just a little bit (can't write about the movie or video/audio quality until I've seen the whole thing) and then head back down to start on Part II of CHE. I can write the heading and about the trailer and commentary. That's something, I guess.

Just finished watching the clip of the first million dollar winner on Antiques Roadshow.  I love it when good things happen to nice people!        :D

[if you are interested, it's here, five minutes from the end of the hour.]

That's so weird!  I just got the book, "Antiques Roadshow: Behind the Scenes" from the library today!

Back from lunch and shall now write.  A package that was supposed to be here today won't be here until tomorrow because UPS screwed up (what else is new).  Also, I've now heard the film tracks in question, and right now I'm of the opinion they're just not in good enough quality to make a two CD set that costs 29.98.  We're going to try one other thing and see if I'm happy, otherwise, it will be the LP presentation in great sound and four or five bonus tracks from the film itself.

I wasn't aware that ANTIQUES ROADSHOW had "winners."  Has it changed to a game show format?

Probably now that it's been mentioned on the Internet, it might happen. ;)

BK, I'm glad the book is going well. I hope you're moving the deleted portions of the text to another folder and holding onto them for the book that deals with yucky personal history in fictional or nonfictional form. And I guess this is my lead-in to the TOD.

I agreee, BK.  You should save the deleted stories and use them for future literary purposes.

No.  I just didn't take the time to figure out how it should have been appropriately phrased.

If you end up with "La Manse," would you consider yourself a "winner"?       :)

Betsy and the realtor are, at this point anyway, loathe to even consider going down that road again.  We have several newer, nicer options, though they are not on 15 acres.  Having just tried to clean up our 3/4 acre to put this current house on the market, I'm thinking maybe that's another plus, LOL.
