In my CD player at work:  nine, count 'em NINE CDs that I bought as replacements for CDs that were stolen from me sometime this summer.  I know I can't replace them all, but I'll get what I get.

From www.dresscircle.co.uk, I bought the London cast recordings of Carousel, City of Angels, Copacabana and Elegies for Angels Punks and Raging Queens.  They're having a special, Buy 2 CD's For £8.99.  It's a very good deal.  It was just about $40 for the four CDs, including shipping!

Also, I bought four CDs on eBay.  I got the original cast recordings of Howard Crabtree's Whoop-Dee-Doo!, Howard Crabtree's When Pigs Fly, Wig in a Box: Songs from and Inspired by Hedwig and the Angry Inch (which I had never owned in the first place) and Naked Boys Singing (the only CD that I already have and it wasn't one that was stolen, but it has the other cover on it, so I'll keep it).  I got these all for a grand total of $28.46!

And on Wednesday, I received the original Broadway cast recording of City of Angels for less than nine bucks.  I love this recording!

Friday morning greetings!  SW Ohio is still snowed in, so today's plans to get my Mom's move underway may have to be altered.  She was to get her key today and we were going to move some things she doesn't want the movers to handle - computer, stained glass, etc.

Friday media check:

DVD - tonight is movie night with my AAUW friends.  We're watching North Country, which ties in with the theme of our January book selection:  Telling Stories Out of Court:  Narratives about Women and Workplace Discrimination.  The book isn't nearly as academic as the title makes is sound.

I am not working today.  Snow flurries continue with a wind chill factor of -3 degrees, which of course compared the environs of DR CILLA LIZ is spring time!

But I told my sister to save her money - she and her husband may be spending a lot of time by themselves at the store today.  Time will tell.

Hopefully my nephews will be by to shovel my driveway and sidewalk.

Good morning, all! I slept late and, mirabile dictu, wasn't up once during the night. I've have to tdy the apartment, get some things together for the drums for this songwriter's show, and head to NYPL for more biographic sleuthing.

DR Basil, you were a real posting frenzy last night. I think you will have no problem fitting into the madness of HHW.

DR Ginny, I'm sorry to hear the snow has screwed up your moving plans. I was expecting to find everything in Manhattan buried today, but perhaps that will happen to us tomorrow. The weather folk like to predict the worst.

DVD: more episodes or THE GERTRUDE BERG SHOW as well as some episodes of PETE AND GLADYS and THE NANETTE FABRAY SHOW

DVR: A whole slew of Loretta Young movies that aired the other night on TCM and which I am burning to DVD for my friend Jim.

CD: PANIC IN YEAR ZERO and TWO FOR A SEE SAW (they make a nice combo for driving in the motor car)

Good morning!

The gods must be smiling down upon me; snow and ice missed us, and now it's gloriously beautiful outside. COld as all get-out, of course, but no icy conditions that will make getting to my usual Friday places difficult. And it's going to get colder dipping below the teens for the next few nights. This is really scary cold for us!

With nothing expected in the mail in terms of review material, I'm going to start on CHANTAL AKERMAN IN THE SEVENTIES today. Isn't due until the 19th, and so I can spend all weekend on it. I have no idea about any of these films; they will be brand new to me.

With the directors of THE HURT LOCKER, UP IN THE AIR, AVATAR, PRECIOUS, and INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS receiving DGA nominations yesterday, I think it's clear those five films will vie for the Best Picture Oscar. But there are five more slots to fill this year. Wonder what will be there?

The tv just said we've had 46 inches of snow so far this season. Wow.  Sorry to just talk about the weather, but when it may be -33 tonight and we'ver been snowed in again, it's pretty much what's going on here
