BLEARY WEARY EYES

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were bleary and weary and yet cheery, and now it is time for you to post until the bleary weary cows come home.

Well, yesterday certainly was a day...what with the opera that I went to and catching up on all the Golden Globe posts after not watching any of the Golden Globes.  I'll speed through the rebroadcast on Friday.

Today (in the morning, of course), my mom is coming over to my house!  She wants to "help" me clean up my house. :o Yes, it needs to be cleaned, but I don't really want my mom to help me, but since I'm not really doing it myself, she's going to make me let her help me...if that makes sense.

Pray for Rosemarie's baby...me.  Because my mom's name is Rosemarie. ;)

TOD:

My heavy press-board replica of a medievel castle - with working draw bridge and sturdy castle doors. Many were the hours that Robin spent storming the castle!

Honorable mention would probably go to my vast collection of lincoln logs.

Of course at Christmas time everything was set aside in favor of playing with the train on the Christmas Garden platform (see DtM posts for details).

By age 8, I had only one good friend - my red Schwinn - which was my ticket to independance and adventure - and a constant companion thru high school years.

My whole bedroom (the loft on the third floor) is out of bounds.

DR Matt Hough

I think you are making mistake by not going the see Avatar in a theater. It is not the best film I've ever seen, but it deserves to be seen in 3D and if possible in IMAX. I don't think the film experience can be duplicated by watching it on a TV set.

As a film reviewer who might review the blu-ray/dvd I feel that you should see it so you can compare the experience of watching both film formats. As a consumer I would like to know what the differences are and whether or not I would buy a copy.

Thanks for reading

TOD:

I've managed to hold on to several of my absolute favorite toys from when I was a youngen.  First and foremost of my favs:  my Lego set, still in its original box.  While it's an amalgamation that includes two smaller sets, it still holds the original large set contents.  I also have my Erector Set, my Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars (and collector cases), a beat-up Zeroid, most of my View-Master wheels and viewer, and the WhirlyBird Helicopter.

What I wish I still had:  the Ideal version of the Lost In Space Robot, my G.I. Joes (especially the Mercury Astronaut and Space Capsule),  my Beany doll (of BEANY AND CECIL), and the Time Machine (with the little plastic cubes that would open up and expand into various monsters, robots, dinosaurs etc.)

Good morning, all! I slept well and now I'm ready to start my day. I'm listening to the new FINIAN'S RAINBOW CD and I cannot tell you all how wonderful it is: as I hear the dance music, I can see the dances in my head.  I'm happy to have so much of the production on disc and thanks to the recording, much of this production will still exist in my head.

Today, a day off from Herbert and Kern. I'm having lunch with my friend Joseph Rubin to catch up on things and to talk about the original 1902 version of THE WIZARD OF OZ, which he's restoring.

Thanks for reading

But it's not my job to review AVATAR as a theatrical experience, only as a home video experience. And where will it stop? Why wouldn't I also go see it in a 2-D theater so I could compare it to the 3-D and later to its home video incarnation.

The fact is I have limited time and limited money. Fox is not sending me a press pass to see the film in a theater (unlike when I reviewed movies for a newspaper where I was entitled to gratis attendance), and if I start that with AVATAR, it wouldn't be fair to the other three hundred DVDs and Blu-rays I review every year that I'm not watching the films in a theater first either. I am not and would not make an exception for AVATAR no matter how spectacular the experience may be in a theater.

Good morning!

Staying up so late last night led to uneasy sleep, weird dreams, and an early morning that didn't involve my walk. It's pretty, though, and I'm looking forward to enjoying some of the day outside, whether we do lunch or not.

The middle drawer in my office desk came apart last night when my leg hit it wrong, and the entire thing collapsed at my feet. I was too tired last night to repair it (and pick up the mess), so I had to use my walk time this morning to do that little irritating chore. It's all back together (nice that the drawer had slotted pegs that could slide in and out) and all is right with the world.
