I missed the deluge in Atlanta and now I'm missing it in NY. Finally something times out right. It's sunny and breezy here, so NY may be nice again tomorrow!

DR Druxy, I am glad you were not having a heart attack! I went through that same experience a few months back...not heart problems for me either, until I got the emergency room bill.

Question: Did Frank Sinatra REALLY win the Oscar for FROM HERE TO ETERNITY?

[Mercedes McCambridge doesn't look in the envelope.]

Look at the video, then you decide:

How did she know?  The envelope was opened....but she didn't have it until it was handed to her.

I think we should start the rumor that Brandon deWilde REALLY won....and watch the inner web light up.

I saw that Oscar show when it aired, and I'd always remembered that she never looked in the envelope.

I have no doubt that Sinatra was the actual winner, but if he wasn't: Who would have the balls to take on Frank and his "friends"?

Well that's true....but HOW DID SHE KNOW?  Hmmmmmmmmmmm, I forget if she mentions anything about it in her autobiography....which I have SOMEWHERE.

One of the things she wrote that I think was very interesting was:  "I didn't know what it meant to win an Oscar - until I lost one."

When I was in high school (or was it college?), Mercedes McCambridge did THE TIME OF THE CUCKOO (aka: SUMMERTIME) at Seattle's Cirque Playhouse.

What a fantastic actress.

TOD - probably "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"  - if that counts.

Last night, the DP and I saw the new Cirque du Solei show Ovo, which was quite fun.  The music was incredible as were the acts.  Afterward we had dinner at Town Hall and that was quite yummy.  For dessert, I had the butterscotch and chocolate Pot De Creme, which came in a deep bowl and it was filled to the top.  More like a Trough de Creme or a Boat de Creme.  But it was SOOOO good.

Today, it's back to normal.

Now why didn't she use that voice in THE EXORCIST?

Starman
The Day the Earth Stood Still  (first alien movie I ever saw, so far as I know)
This Island Earth
The Day of the Triffids

Greetings from the atrium of Atrium Medical Center, where I'm waiting to be admitted.  Yes, the doctor sent me directly here for an ultrasound which detected a blood clot.  I don't know too many details, but am not a happy camper.
