TOD: Somewhere in Portugal. I've been to the country twice now, and can't get enough. The lifestyle is quiet, unassuming and relaxed in a way that welcomes you without being overbearing. The seafood is the freshest you could ask for, and the cuisine is rustic yet full of flavor.

I put the finishing touches on a new magazine this morning that is set to come out in March. San Antonio Taste, a food and lifestyle publication that will appear quarterly -- if we get some subscribers and enough newsstand interest. It's quite exciting, if we can get the corrections made and the printing looks even better than the proofs. So, if there's such a thing as editing/printing vibes, please send them along.

re: the discussion of toffee on the snow yesterday.

I've never seen anyone do it themselves. I've always either had it when we went sugaring off. Or at carnivals or things like that.

But I would imagine that you could probably boil real maple syrup, drop it on clean snow and then you take a popsicle stick and twirl the syrup on it (that is how it is served).  It is really good. One of my favorite things.

On TAR - I like the Cowboys.

I don't know about them.  They seemed pretty dumb through most of last night. At the beginning of the episode i was thinking they probably won't last very long!

Indiana's Evan Bayh a career politician who has fed at the public trough all of his life will not seek a third term for the Senate this year.  I do not think we have heard the last of this fool - his is in the Clintons' pockets.  Something is up.  You heard it hear first.

Dan Coats is ready in the wings to grab this seat for the Republicans.

If Hilary ran in 2012, Evan would likely be her VP choice.

I'm just wondering if they are going to wear all of their cowboy gear throughout their time on "TAR".  -Or if they are "required" to wear all of their cowboy gear?  Hmmm...

re: the olympics last night

I know they made a big deal about it on NBC. But last night was one of the most thrilling moments for Canadians.

I'm talking about the men's moguls. That was the first gold medal EVER for a Canadian for an Olympics held in Canada.

I thought it was thrilling to watch (especially after the disappointment the day before in women's moguls).

You will be pleased to know that your mention of Bittman's savory oatmeal has casued that item to join our heart-healthy menu choices - it was especially good with venison loin and red cabbage

tod

Not sure how to spell it  but Machu Pichu in Peru

Machu Picchu is also on Keith's list & I would not complain.  I'm just not all that interested in the surrounding locations as I am in going to other parts of the world.  We have both heard horror stories of people getting sick from the elevation.

My dutiful husband cleared our driveway and his car to go to our local cemetery to help provide military honors at a veteran's funeral.  He picked up some milk while he was out and is now home safely.  I can exhale.

*And I was actually thinking about "savorizing" my oatmeal later.  -Especially since I had the City Bakery Chocolate-Zucchini Cake for breakfast. And the Raspberry Linzer Heart too.  ;)
