DR Elmore that neighbor above you sounds like a real jerk.  I don't know what exactly I'd do. But if he won't try to be more considerate there has to be something. I know i would not be able to let it go.  I"m surprised the landlord or building manager won't get involved.

I know you don't want to wake up other neighbors at night by being noisy. But man i'd be so tempted to take my stereo and aim it right at the ceiling of his bedroom right when he was trying to sleep. Maybe then he'd understand about being disturbed!

I would go bang loudly on his door next time, and maybe every time.   You are awake anyway.

I thought of that too.  It can't hurt!

I am quite sure that the vast majority of people interested in your book are going to know who Bruce Vilanch is, BK.

I know the name but I had to look at a photo to remember who he is, & I don't know his work.

It's funny but i would have assumed that most people would know Bruce Vilanch and his kind of humor. But i guess it's important to be aware that many people might not know him.

TAR:  Amazed that two (count 'em) two teams did not seem to have the faintest clue who Joan of Arc was.

It is pretty shocking.

I started watching the BD of LA CONFIDENTIAL last night, got it free from the Warner Rewards program.  I'd forgotten how many incredible people are in it, including a very young Simon Baker.  Fun to revisit after so long.

Yes, and SImon Baker uses a fuller name in the credits in this. I loved the part he played in the film, but I love the film, so I think everyone in it is pretty sensational.

I must head downstairs now to get cleaned up for lunch out today with best friend John. I recorded DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES last night because of John Barrowman's guest star role (and I understand Andrew is back in some plot line with his mother), so I'll likely watch that before I get picked up for lunch.

WBBL.

I didn't watch DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES yet but i'm curious about John Barrowman.  Andrew has been back for a while now.

I wouldn't know. I dropped the show after the season premiere, and watching this today, I remember why. More about this in a minute.

I am also recording, throughout the week,  the 2010 World Figure Skating Championships on Universal Sports (analog)....apparently, that's the only channel I have that is airing them.

Seems I won't be watching this at all since I don't seem to have a channel that is airing it.
[/quote]

I'm in the same boat, DR Jane, and I am not happy about it. I am hoping and praying that NBC will see fit to put the shows on one of the On Demand channels I have here. Sports On Demand or Entertainment On Demand. I guess it's too much to hope for the High Definition Showcase On Demand, but I won't squawk if they put it on SOME channel we get on our Time-Warner cable system. We don't have Universal Sports, neither the analog nor the digiital/high def versions.

Before I left for lunch, I watched PORTIONS of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. This means I watched the scenes with John Barrowman and all of the scenes involving Andrew and his new "brother." I skipped over every other storyline.

I haven't decided yet if I'll continue to record the show and watch the portions I'm interested in or just skip it all together.

I don't know what is wrong with this season. But the teams are not very good at all. I cannot find a single team that i find to be good.  And it's sort of annoying that they've had 2 legs in a row without any way for teams to catch up. No airports.  How would the last place team ever be able to catch up. They started 2 1/2 hours behind.  I will say that i liked how there were actually challenges involved at the roadblocks detours. I loved that there were 2 places with the same name in 2 different towns. And i loved that the grapes task and champagne task involved some sort of challenge. I hate it when teams simply get to a task and then everyone is able to do it easily.  I am curious if people think that jeff made a smart move switching tasks when he saw the other couple still there.  I could see why some would think it was smart. Since he probably thought that they had be doing that task for hours. But i thought it was dumb. Fight it out at the same task and then at least you can see if they find the grapes or not.  I like jeff and jordan. ANd they had so much potential at the beginning. They were working together. But they just lost it in recent weeks.  It's interesting to watch brent and caite (i'm not sure how to spell their names). She really does control that team. When she is on they do well. When she pouts they lose it. Her attitude when they tried to find the grapes the first time made me want to hurt her. So petty. The one thing i do like about her is that she seems to be much more competitive than most of the people who are on the show. And i really think that is an important attribute.

For people who watch a lot of dvds (some may already know this).

One thing that has bugged me when putting in a dvd is that i always wished i could get right to the movie. Hitting menu a bunch of times usually helps. But still there are always those notices and it just ends up taking forever to get to the film.

My brother-in-law read this (and i tried it and it worked). But when you put in the dvd hit "stop stop play" and you get right to the start of the movie!

BBC 3 is spending the week on Sondheim

Part 1 is available on the BBC iPlayer

Sondheim Part 1

Thanks for posting this!  I hope that I can at least listen to it (rehearsals for THE BRAIN, you know :D), or hopefully record it.

I decided to rewatch CHARADE which is a great movie and never loses its luster even after all these years. Too bad it couldn't have been made with a stereo soundtrack so it would be more enveloping sound-wise on home video. That's not a slam against it since stereo recording wasn't the norm back then, but it's SUCH an outstanding comedy thriller. Can't think of many others that can compare with it.

I rather doubt it since every disc is authored differently by the different houses that produce these discs.

And sometimes I wouldn't want to go right into the movie because I'd need to choose the audio I'd want to hear for the film. Some discs offer two or three different English audio tracks.

Hitting the menu button will often take one right to the disc menu and that's always where I prefer to start on any disc, DVD or Blu-ray.

Haven't decided what movie I'll watch tonight before heading into CHUCK, but the first one I glimpsed on the to-watch shelf was ROXIE HART, and I might watch that. We'll see.

IagreeI doubt there's one person off this board buying the book who does not know who Bruce Vilanch is. He's on tv, there was a wonderful documentary about him, he was on Broadway in HAIRSPRAY. The book's about show biz.

I agree, DR Jennifer. Vilanch is on tv regularly, he was on Broadway in HAIRSPRAY, he's appeared in documentaries about Bette Midler and others, and he himself was the subject of a good documentary. The book's a show biz book, and, outside of the people on this board, anyone who's buying the book most likely know who he is. As to the blurb? It's funny so why torture it to death? It will see books.

I'm wondering if Scott Clifton was mortally wounded today. I think they're killing him off. I passed him at Lincoln Center about two weeks ago, and if I'd known he had been written off the show, I would have spoken to him.

A Very Happy Birthday to Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber!

I'm going to listen to Love Never Dies.  I started it last week, but I wasn't able to get through the first disc...because of my situation at work, not because I "couldn't get through it."  After that, I have my own CD made from the DVD audio track of, "Andrew Lloyd Webber: The Royal Albert Hall Celebration" from 1998, where "The Heart Is Slow To Learn" was first performed.  This song was rewritten to be "Our Kind of Love" from ALW's The Beautiful Game, and now it's become the title song to Love Never Dies

I prefer the song "Our Kind of Love" to the other two versions, even though it's not its final form.

I agree about Charade. Another comedy thriller with a couple with excellent chemistry is Hopscotch with Glenda Jackson (underused) and Walter Matthau. but it's not on quite the same level.

Yes, they are. He's part of a massive cast reduction by the show. Too bad they're getting rid of potentially interesting characters and keeping the tired ones whose storylines were played out long ago.
