Didn't LA CONFIDENTIAL win the Screenplay Oscar the year of the Titanic landslide?

Yes, that and Kim Basinger's award were the only two earned by the film, a horrific oversight, I feel.

I am also recording, throughout the week,  the 2010 World Figure Skating Championships on Universal Sports (analog)....apparently, that's the only channel I have that is airing them.

Seems I won't be watching this at all since I don't seem to have a channel that is airing it.

I'm in the same boat, DR Jane, and I am not happy about it. I am hoping and praying that NBC will see fit to put the shows on one of the On Demand channels I have here. Sports On Demand or Entertainment On Demand. I guess it's too much to hope for the High Definition Showcase On Demand, but I won't squawk if they put it on SOME channel we get on our Time-Warner cable system. We don't have Universal Sports, neither the analog nor the digiital/high def versions.

Jennifer thanks for the stop, stop, play tip.  We will give it a try & see if it works.  Right now we only have tv series to watch & no movies.

DR Elmore that neighbor above you sounds like a real jerk.  I don't know what exactly I'd do. But if he won't try to be more considerate there has to be something. I know i would not be able to let it go.  I"m surprised the landlord or building manager won't get involved.

I know you don't want to wake up other neighbors at night by being noisy. But man i'd be so tempted to take my stereo and aim it right at the ceiling of his bedroom right when he was trying to sleep. Maybe then he'd understand about being disturbed!

I would go bang loudly on his door next time, and maybe every time.   You are awake anyway.
You never know, he might invite you to join in! (Just kidding)

I used to live upstairs over a couple who fought constantly. they were both physically abusive to each other, and, as I look back on it, it was the way their relationship worked. It was ugly for meand I never said anything (they were the landlords). I just moved as soon as the lease was over, but it was a horrible year.  I felt like I was a part of their screwed up world. I don't envy you your nocturnal madness.

I don't care if he wants to stay out all night. What I resent is his complete lack of concern for his neighbors: no carpet to muffle anything, heavy walking around, the squeaky bed which is also very noisy to fold out, letting the door slam behind him, and the noisy sex. If he wants to whore around from 11 pm to 3 am, the least the ass could do is unfold the bed before he leaves or purchase a sturdier bed, put down some carpet, and show some damned consideration for my friendly but aggressive attempts to resolve this since January.

Better yet, he could be murdered on the streets.

Maybe you should gift wrap a can of W/D40 and leave it at his front door?

For people who watch a lot of dvds (some may already know this).

One thing that has bugged me when putting in a dvd is that i always wished i could get right to the movie. Hitting menu a bunch of times usually helps. But still there are always those notices and it just ends up taking forever to get to the film.

My brother-in-law read this (and i tried it and it worked). But when you put in the dvd hit "stop stop play" and you get right to the start of the movie!

Does this work for every movie??

I think so. I tried it on a few and so did my brother-in-law.

I rather doubt it since every disc is authored differently by the different houses that produce these discs.

And sometimes I wouldn't want to go right into the movie because I'd need to choose the audio I'd want to hear for the film. Some discs offer two or three different English audio tracks.

Hitting the menu button will often take one right to the disc menu and that's always where I prefer to start on any disc, DVD or Blu-ray.

I tried the "stop stop play" and it went right to the start of the movie. Then i hit "menu" and was able to change the audio and then i hit play. And it went right back to the beginning of the movie.

JMK died twice?

Nope.  Charles Tettenbaum in 1900 & Rachael Goldie Tettenbaum in 1930, both in the County of Newcastle upon Tyne only in different sub-districts.

Obviously, Bruce Villanch did not call BK up on the phone and ask if he could write a blurb for BK's next book.  So I am assuming that BK wanted Bruce Villanch to write the blurb.  I think it is typical Villanch, and very funny, so I would certainly say to go with it.  And if you can use all three blurbs - even better!

All your photos are wonderful, Laura.  If you don't want to write your memoirs, you should, at least, put out a book of your photos.

I have never seen LA CONFIDENTIAL. I had always heard that it was very bloody and violent, and I never mustered up enough interest to see it....so, that leaves me with considering BABY'S DAY OUT as the best movie of the last 25 years.

It's not *that* bloody or violent.

LOL-I had to look that one up.  Do you mean the '94 movie?  Honestly I can't remember if I've seen it or not.  I liked Confidential but wouldn't name it as the best movie of the last 25 years.
