Thanks, DR Jane.

I think I'm going to try to do some weekend chores that got neglected--a load of laundry and processing the week's mail.  Maybe if I move around some I'll work the meds out of my system...

Hmmm...I wonder how many HHWers have ever seen this 1969 made in Florida version of THE WIZARD OF OZ.

The films producer/director claimed that he was negotiating with Judy Garland to do the n'arration. I wonder how many milliseconds it took her agent to say "No!" Hee, hee!

The actress playing Mombi seems to be channeling Dorothy Neumann as the witch in Roger Corman's The Undead.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RxLBjf0t1k&feature=PlayList&p=5AA5E490583D5DA0&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=17

I was a little bit afraid of clicking on this--I though every film that was made in Florida in 1969 was a nudie flick.

I'm sure DR MBarnum was hoping that would be the case.

Thanks for the tips re: sore backs.

DR Jeanne will the homeopathic arnica really help?  It's a recurring lower back thing. I have a health food store like 5 minutes away.

Also DR Jane, i do have a heating pad although not one you can soak with water. I wonder if i should use it more. I feel like there is a spot on my left lower back that is constantly inflammed.

This one somehow works like a moist heat, you place a towel between you and the pad, yet no water is involved.  It is all electric.  If you feel the spot is inflamed I suggested using ice.  Do you have a soft ice pack you can re-freeze?  I sometimes alternated ice & heat.

Yes i have a soft ice pack. I never know whether to use heat or ice or neither.

In the unbelievable but true department, the idiot Program Manager at the senior center just memorialized in an email to me that she wants me to LIE to the many venues I had booked the choir into (which I am now cancelling), and most of which book me as a solo person, hence their interest in this frankly less than pro senior choir, so as NOT TO EMBARASS the senior center!  Ummmm.......no.

Ice reduces inflammation.   10 minutes at a time is usually enough.  I prefer heat for relief but sometimes you need ice.

I am reading 2 books from the library right now:  THE RED LEATHER DIARY and Dacre Stoker's DRACULA THE UN-DEAD, the latter of which would indeed give DR Jane nightmares.

I look forward to reading your reaction to Diary.

I'm not fond of Dracula stories, yet we watched ZOMBIELAND last night, at my suggestion ;D

It was fun, particularly the Bill Murray sequence.

Still, I just sold my copy on ebay.

It was fun & it was your post about it that put me in the mood to watch it.  We own very few movies.  I wouldn't call Zombieland a keeper.

DR MattH, I know this may sound weird but have you tried walking with your sore back? Or does it make it worse?

For some reason my lower back always feels better when i walk or bike (yet hurts when i sit or lie down).  I have no idea if this is totally abnormal, cause i also thought i would not be able to exercise with a sore back. But i just tried it and it felt amazing.

I walked yesterday morning when it was just a little stiff, and by the afternoon I was in horrific pain. However, I do not take to my bed when my back seizes up like this. I have too much to do to lie in bed and moan about it. I get around as best I can.

The hot shower this morning did ease the stiffness and pain some, and the heating pad this afternoon also helped. It's always something that has to run its course with me. It'll take three or four days, and I'll be back to normal. Getting there, however, is a painful trip.

DR's Matt H, TCB, Jennifer, Ginny, Jeanne, & any DR I might have misseD, I hope you are in less pain today.

Thank you, DR Jane. It is somewhat less severe today than yesterday (which is as bad as I've ever felt with my lower back. Getting old is HELL.)

And sorry to read about your illness, DR Dan the Man. I hope you can feel better soon.

Before we left for lunch (yes, I FORCED myself to leave the house and go to lunch with best friend John), I watched last night's BROTHERS & SISTERS. Loved the scenes with Kevin and Scotty. I hope something VERY bad happens to Dennis York who is a smug and vicious goon.

When I got in from lunch, I watched 'M' on Blu-ray. Very pleased with the amount of depth and detail in this 1931 film. Sure, there are still scratches and some scenes that seem much softer than the rest. But overall, I was very impressed with the Blu-ray edition. The film has always deeply affected me and it still does even though I hadn't watched it in years.

I sampled some of the commentary and got about halfway through the William Friedkin interview with Fritz Lang which I'll finish when I go back down. Looks like I have quite a few more bonuses to go, however. I'll be working on this right up to tonight's '24.'

OK, that was a fast internet surf, and now I'm going to hop off-line and get some writing done. Then I'll head down to try to finish the rest of the 'M' bonus features.

I watched three Blu-ray discs yesterday afternoon and evening.

First up was "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince".  I watched it once at some point during the end-of-year holidays, but I couldn't recall much about it.  This remained true as the film played on...although it all came back to me as it unfolded.  So, it was almost like watching it for the first time.  Overall, the film was very dark...literally and figuratively.  It took us here, it led us there, and it left me hanging.  Hope the next one makes up for it.

Next up was "Twilight".  I love vampire stories, and this one has a huge following.  The leads are likable, but I find Robert Pattinson's makeup too distractingly "prettified" to not dwell upon at the expense of whatever angst is being expressed in the screenplay.  He had an awful lot of artifiice to act through.  I found myself much relieved when "Edward" left Forks.   Teen angst ain't my thing.  It wasn't when I was a teenager, and it sure isn't now.

Then came "New Moon".  Yes, it's a better film.  Taylor Lautner's Jakob is quite the character.  I thought there might have been a little bit more there....but it all ended with the..."I love you too much to subject you to this hideous thing that is part of me".  Gimme a break!   I think Bella belongs with Jake.  Yes, I do.  Edward's way too effete for the likes of Bella.  For the Italian sequence, at least we got in some of the local scenery.

Then it was bedtime.  I dreamed of nothing occult, cold or hairy.   I was much relieved.

Not sure if this is password protected.....I submitted it to the INDY STAR this morning for publication.  Not optimistic, but the patented HHW vibes may help get it onto the page.

Good Afternoon!

My parents plane should be taking off momentarily...

And, I, momentarily, will begin my drive up to DC...

DR elmore - Shall I say HI to anyone for you? ;)

SAFE & EASY TRAVEL VIBES TO YOU AND YOUR PARENTS!

I had a relatively uneventful trip up to DC - just some traffic at Fredericksburg, and my parents called me from Detroit right before their plane was about to depart for Manila (via Narita).

Thank You for the Vibes.
