Good morning!

Looks like it's going to be a beautiful day here. I was a little stiff in the lower back this morning (had a much better night than the night before), but I've already taken a hot, hot shower in preparation for lunch out today with friends, and my back has felt MUCH improved after that shower. Another couple of days, and I should be back to normal.

AVATAR comes out on Blu-ray today, so I'm expecting the Fox review copy today, and if it comes, that'll be today's work project. It's a movie-only release; no bonus features at all, so watching it will take the time it takes but no more since there is nothing else to see.

So far, no UPS deliveries.

After having nothing on TV last night, I'm delighted that tonight I will have new episodes of BONES, SUPERNATURAL, THE OFFICE/30 ROCK (two eps of 30 ROCK), THE MENTALIST, and PROJECT RUNWAY (season finale conclusion).

I also noticed since PRIVATE PRACTICE is a new episode tonight and GREY'S ANATOMY is a rerun, ABC is reversing the order of their playing. PRIVATE PRACTICE comes on at 9 EDT tonight.

I always wanted a real soundtrack for MYRA BRECKINRIDGE. Mae West's two numbers were released as singles, but I liked all of the soundtrack excerpts used and the rest of the score.

I've been told that all of the DVD copies of THE BEST MAN (Henry Fonda) that are being sold on Amazon are defective.  In fact, Amazon has stopped selling them until the problem can be corrected.

I didn't buy it because it's not an anamorphic transfer. Like so many MGM transfers of films with 1.66:1, 1.75:1, or 1.85:1 aspect ratios, (both pressed discs and these MOD discs), the transfers aren't anamorphic which, for 2010, is truly infuriating.

The UPS drove right by the side of the house without stopping, but maybe he turned the corner and delivered something without my knowing. I'll head down to see.

I also heard that we're doing lunch early today so that also makes me happy.

Quiet morning which is fine.  Such lovely weather to enjoy with two days of rain and storms predicted for Friday and Saturday.

My Borders adventure from last week continues.  You may remember the braindead clerk misordered something from Borders.com, supposedly canceled that order and then placed the correct one.  Yesterday two envelopes arrived.  One had the INCORRECT item in it.  The second one, whose tracking number on the label indicates it should have been the correct item, was EMPTY!!  They mailed me a sealed, EMPTY envelope.  Oy and vey.  So I called the store, the manager was aghast.  I am bringing the empty envelope in today.  Luckily I paid with that with a gift card, so they can refund that money onto the giftcard.  Unfortunately, the incorrect one was paid with a credit card, and there's a lot of hoo-hah before that can be refunded.

Elmore,  I believe the score to OH, WHAT A LOVELY WAR was once released once on Vinyl.  I remember listening to it in a friend's apartment

That's a great card for DR Sandra, MBarnum. She is quite a wild partier, you know. You should have her tell the story about the time we took her to a bar.

As promised, here is information on the potential for a very fun NW HHW gathering.  This could be the start of a whole new career for BK ;):

RAVE IN THE NAVE ANNOUNCES ITS 2010-11 SEASON OF PERFORMING ARTISTS:

September 18   Marv and Rindy Ross
Top 40 hitmakers with Quarterflash, Marv and Rindy have gone on to great acclaim with their popular Trail Band concerts.  Rave in the Nave is proud to present the Rosses in a rare intimate duo performance to kick off our third season.

October 16   Tom Grant
Long considered Portland’s favorite jazz pianist, native son Tom Grant has forged an international career with scores of top selling albums to his credit.  Equally at ease playing standards from the Great American Songbook, or more groove oriented contemporary jazz tunes, Tom’s solo concert will delight music lovers of all ages.

November 13         Bruce Kimmel
Television star, feature film writer and director, best-selling author, legendary Grammy nominated producer of Broadway cast albums—Bruce Kimmel has done it all in a career spanning several decades and areas of expertise.  Now with his memoirs newly published, Bruce comes to Portland with a fun multi-media presentation that looks over a long and varied life in show business.

December 11   Time Out!  The Holiday Edition
Back for their second appearance in Rave in the Nave, the hilarious Moms of the Time Out troupe, headlined by Jacki Kane and Betsy Kauffman, bring some much needed laughter and stress relief to one of the busiest times of the year.

January 22  Linda Hornbuckle and Janice Scroggins
Three’s the charm for this fantastic soul-gospel duo, who have played to SRO audiences for the first two seasons of Rave in the Nave.  An exciting and inspiring evening of timeless musical performances is in store.  If you haven’t experienced the joy of Linda and Janice in concert, don’t miss this standout event.

February 12   Chrisse Roccaro in "Love Letters"
Portland theater star Chrisse Roccaro appears in A.J. Gurney’s acclaimed romantic play “Love Letters,” co-starring Chrisse’s own husband, Stephen Guntli.  A perfect evening in preparation for Valentine’s Day, “Love Letters” is Rave in the Nave’s personal Valentine to our audience.

March 19                    Elizabeth Nicholson
Internationally acclaimed Celtic harpist and vocalist Elizabeth Nicholson helps us celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a beautiful evening of traditional and more modern Irish and Celtic music.

April 9      Eric Hull and Vox:  A Spoken Word Chorus
An unusual evening of spoken verse with Eric Hull’s acclaimed troupe featuring some of Portland’s best known theater stars.  This promises to be an unique and riveting evening of spoken verse.

May 14   Melinda Strobel in “Susannah Wesley”
CUMC’s own Melinda Strobel brings her popular one woman show about Susannah Wesley to Rave in the Nave.  Susannah was the wife of Methodism’s founder John Wesley.

June 4   Aaron Meyer and Tim Ellis
Portland’s answer to Jean-Luc Ponty, violinist Aaron Meyer, has become a fixture on the local and regional music scene with his inventive world music compositions.  Appearing with Aaron is popular local guitarist Tim Ellis.
