Here's another way the insurance company screws its customers makes money: Require patients to order meds by mail, encourage them to put them on automatic renewal, and count on the patient forgetting that minor detail when the physician takes her off that particular medication. Today I received in the mail a cholesterol-lowering drug that my doctor told me to stop and, of course, I didn't think to call and "unenroll" (isn't that great corporate-speak?). You can't return dispensed prescription medications, so I'm out the co-pay. I might as well have taken $50 and flushed it down the toilet.
