Would any DR Like to see a front page from the day he was born.

Post your Birthdate and I will try to find it for you and post it.

Front page of what?

I think you can find most people's birthdates in their member info.

Here is mine: 04/26/70.  I feel old. :(

I rented the Steve Martin version of Cheaper By the Dozen today.  I thought it was very funny.  I cannot even imagine having twelve kids.  Steve Martin is hilarious.

I went off my diet today and had the most delicious Tim Horton's Iced Cap  (Tim Horton's is a donut place, and there Ice cap is similar to Starbuck's Frappucino but cheaper :))

Yummy!  I just realized that the gas station about 5 minutes away, has opened a Tim Horton's drive-thru. Yeah!

Jennifer here is the front page of the Pomona CA Progress Bulletin from the day you were born 4-26-1970.

You can save it to a disk and enlarge it if you like.

Lovely kitten, DRJANE.  See how easy it is!

My birthdate is 12-7-48.  Do you have L.A?

We have four newspapers framed and lined up in a hallway.  Mine is the only one not from the city I was born in.  It took several attempts to before I located an L.A. paper for Keith.  When I was in labor with each of the boys Keith took one of his rare breaks from holding my hand to pick up a paper.  Considering how long I took to deliver those kids he sure needed an excuse to take a break.

My San Francisco paper is neat.  In big red letters it says “Errol Flynn jailed in row”

JRand53 glad you like the cat.  Thanks again. :) :)

Jennifer you really should see the original CHEEPER BY THE DOZEN, a truly beautiful classic film.  The only similarity between the films is the name.

DRJANE - don't have an LA paper, but here is the RENO Nevada Evening Gazette.  Whew, what a day!

West Coast Macaroni Mfg in Oakland burned down!  That's a lot of spaghetti!

C54 Transport crashed in the Pacific.

And Whitaker-Hiss-Chambers was boiling hot!

All of Durbin's films are light, charming entertainments (well, CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY isn't so light). I really prefer the ones she made as an adult rather than her child star pictures, but they're all worthwhile.

Now, if Universal would just give me TARANTULA, I'd be SO happy.

TARANTULA....isn't it crazy that they put Mara Corday in men's pajamas in her bedroom scene???

I rewatched CALL ME MADAM today with the Miles Kreuger commentary playing. He's always informative and enthusiastic. I found it interesting that he would pause in respect whenever someone was singing but talked right through most of the dance numbers. Also interesting that there are a number of fairly lengthy pauses during his commentary here but with the 1936 SHOW BOAT, he doesn't draw a breath. Of course, he's made SHOW BOAT a lifelong research project, so it's not surprising he had much more to say about it than CALL ME MADAM, but at any rate, he gave a good, informative talk.

I was hoping he'd once and for all validate that Irving Berlin won the Tony for Best Score for CALL ME MADAM. THE TONY AWARDS BOOK certainly says he did, and so does the Tony website (which I guess should be conclusive), but THE TONY AWARDS says that Frank Loesser and his GUYS AND DOLLS score won. Miles mentions the Tonys for Merman and Russell Nype, but doesn't mention that Berlin won the Tony.

SWW, was there a battle of the pekes and pollicles at this park?
Absolutely not.  This was one incredably well behaved group of dogs, from the largest to the smallest.  There was the big golden Lab who was riding in a stroller, the kind that fits behind a bicycle, because he was too old to do the walk itself.  There were puppies and mid-aged dogs of all sorts.  There were doxies who made their presence known with assertive yips.  Lots of sniffing went on, but while there might be a gruff bark after there was no antagonism on the part of any of the dogs.

We did run into a cousin of der Brucer's son-in-law, but he was quite friendly, too.

Der Brucer's face is slightly neon red from his being in the sun.  So is mine.  Next time we'll have to wear shades.   8)

GUYS AND DOLLS won for Outstanding Musical, music & lyrics & book creators credited....and CALL ME MADAM won for Outstanding Musical Score for Irving Berlin.

After that Outstanding Musical was a category, but I don't see a separate one listed for Outstanding Musical Score.

I think it's one of those Tony blips.

Well, I'm sure Loesser won a Tony scroll for G&D and probably a Tony medallion for producing HOW TO SUCCEED, but it's odd that he never won a competitive Tony for a musical score. HAPPY FELLA lost to MY FAIR LADY and HOW TO SUCCEED lost to NO STRINGS

Late and tardy in my postings today, because der B and I went back to the Food and Wine Festival.  We started over at Cloud 9, with wine from the Garland Ranch area around Carmel.  Yawn.

This was followed by a couple of very good, but very expensive, Pinot Grigios and a Zin over at the Dogfish Brewpub, the wines from the Pessagno Winery.  I finally learned how to pronounce terriore or however it's spelled, and met a woman who has put together the winelist for a new restaurant opening soon (got to keep these contacts going).

This was followed by a flight of ten wines from Greece, over at the Camel's Hump.  Some of the wines were very good, some not so.  Greecian winemakers are trying to break away from the ouzo/retsina stereotype, but they aren't getting any support from their government the way Chile, Austrailia, and South Africa have.  Greece's loss.  It was der Brucer's turn to make a contact, this time with a reporter from the local Cape Gazette.

As if we weren't flying well enough after that flight, we then headed back over to the Blue Moon, for a quartet of sparkling wines.  All very nice, but I'm glad they had more cheese and some chicken to nosh on.  While there, we ran into a fellow who had been at the first tasting we had gone to.  Turns out he used to work for the State Department, including a stint in Hungary!

I also confirmed that the Blue Moon has a special running on Tuesdays: three course prix fix, with three samplings of wine, for just $30.  Add dessert, and add a dessert wine.  Not bad for a restaurant that is considered to be one of the best in Delaware, and people in this state know how to eat well!

I've tucked der Brucer into bed, and really should follow his example.  But first I've got to work out what kind of schedule we've got for more tastings tomorrow.

Yes, but it wasn't a happy tune.
Perhaps it was a Hapgood tune.

Hmmm...

That didn't take me long.  Frankly, there's not that much going on tomorrow.  I guess most people are packing up and heading home after the weekend.  Can't blame them.

But we will have the chance to re-meet the fellows from Rainbow Ridge, and there's a wine and cheese happy hour over at DISH! after that.

That, and we've got a gardening shop to check out called Tomato Sunshine.  Nice name.  Der Brucer wants to check for flowers, I want to check for herbs.

And back to jobhunting on Monday.

Well, this place sure looks familiar....
And it seems that The Man from Oz is on line too!

Nice to be back! Yep!

I hope BK was able to visit with our friend Tony Walton and Tony's ex Fair lady, Dame Julie who, like BK, might be signing books too!
