Well, you've read the notes, the notes were mixed up, and now it is time for you to post until the mixed up cows come home.

Not really. ;)

I love of a lot of Lerner's work for some of his non-hit shows (OK, flops), but especially when wedded to the music of Burton Lane in "Carmelina" and Charles Strouse in "Dance a Little Closer." But I especially admire his set of lyrics for "Love Life" with Kurt Weill's music. My favorite might be "Economics" with the simplicity of the following lines standing out:

You got a little money.
You got a little honey.
Money go?
Honey go.

Since there is no recording of this special score, I had to put together one of my own using the 80 percent or so of it that was recorded individually by the likes of Kaye Ballard, Jerry Orbach and Lerner himself.

Thursday morning greetings!  I'm up early to get some computer work done before leaving for midday errands in Dayton.  Those include meeting a friend for lunch and delivering the Vera Bradley bag she had me shop for in Chicagoland - hope she likes it!

Oh, boy, the tree-removal crew just arrived and parked their big yellow truck in our driveway.  Sometime today, we're also expecting a Schwan's delivery, so we'll have 2 big yellow trucks here!

DR Jane, my copy of THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET'S NEST is waiting for me at the library.  Although wouldn't you know it that they have another book waiting for me that i've also been waiting very impatiently to read. I will probably lend the latter to my sister.

I want to read Hornet's next first. But i have another book i must read after that (before the other book that is waiting for me).

Yippee!

I am taking the PT in today to have whatever is wrong with it....who knows?.....fixed.  So I may be without a car this weekend, but since I am working.....I am going nowhere anyway.

I think "Before I Gaze At You Again" is one of my favorite ALan J. Lerner song lyrics - but several lovely ones have been mentioned....."Wouldn't It be Loverly?" is also very nice.

Good morning, all! I had a chance to sleep in until 7:45 and I took it. Since then, i've checked my email, bathed, and had my first cup of coffee. Around 11, I will head down to Toyland for a session with Mr Skip Kennon. As for my work desk here, i've got a Herbert celllo piece to edit and a transposed song to proof, and I must begin my serious thoughts on my lecture in Ohio.

As to today's topic, I like Alan Jay Lerner's lyrics a lot more than some of his libretti and I think he worked best when he wasn't creating an original story. Still, there are some mighty fine lyrics from the dud shows, although I think the best lyrics are inseparable from their melodies:
One More Walk Around the Garden
   How Can I Wait?
I Loved You Once In Silence
What Did I Have that I Don't Have
   Economics

It's not Friday.  I don't think Mr. Lerner wrote that, but nevertheless it is not Friday.

We no longer have cable, having moved to a digital box attached to our television from 2000 and an over the air antenna but last night I was re-scanning because bad weather can cause a channel to drop from the box. In the re-scan I found we are getting a new "sub" channel along with our local WPIX Channel 11. We now get

This TV

It's a joint venture between film/TV studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Chicago-based Weigel Broadcasting. Unfortunately, they also chop up the movies with as many commercials as they can fit.

They are showing Attack of the Puppet People Saturday evening at 11PM!

They also show some old television shows, including the Patty Duke Show and Sea Hunt.

You  can also watch a limited number of movies on line "with limited commercial interruption" One of the movies available is "Still of the Night" starring Meryl Streep and Roy Scheider. I did background work in that movie in the spring of 1981. It's a dreadful movie but I was clearly available in the auction scene when Mr. Scheider walked up the aisle. I look about 12 years old.

Yikes!  The tree they're removing is right outside the southeast corner of our house.  My desk, where I'm sitting at this very moment, is inside the southeast corner of our house.  Talk about up close and personal!
