DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND MY CONTROL

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were beyond my control and were circumcised, and now it is time for you to post until the circumcised cows come home.

TOD:
The music that came out of Sam Phillips' Sun Records in Memphis remains the best to me. The early Elvis, Carl Perkins, Johnny cash and Jerry Lee are in "Million Dollar Quartet" but there was also a great lineage that followed, including Roy Orbison and Charlie Rich.

Favorite songs regardless of where they were recorded would have to include "Blue Suede Shoes," Little Richard's "Good Golly, Miss Molly," "Peggy Sue" and "Great Balls of Fire."

Good morning, all! I am in poor health today - hence my concerns about selling dad's property - so I could use some health vibes, if you can send soem my direction.

This is another long day and, much as I look forward to it, I wish I felt on top of it as opposed to buried under it. I begin with the McGlinnventory, a trek to Toyland, edits with Mr Skip Kennon, and then a trip to the post office. My building has a new USPS delivery truck driver and, since he never shows up when I'm here so I can tell him it's all right to leave packages at my door, he leaves me slips telling me to come to the post office and pick up the damned goods. So, i have a trip to the post office as well.

Yesterday, when I went to my branch, there was one young lady waiting ahead of me, and it was a long wait because the postal worker took forever along with several social digressions with one of her co-workers. And the postal service claims they're in financial trouble, Well, after waiting 30 minutes or more to buy stamps or post a letter, I look for an alternative, too. I also think my postal branch is the worst in the City for lines, inefficiency, and someone's nepotism in hiring only the verified offspring of two first cousins.

Rock and roll? Because I grew up in the mid 1950s and early 60s, it all sounds pretty much alike to me before the Beatles, but I really do love Buddy Holly. I remember the initial buzz about Elvis and his Ed Sullivan Show appearances, and how so many of my friends were crazy about him, but it completely passed me by.

I enjoy MOST early rock and roll.

Rock Around the Clock is certainly one of favorites, along with Teddy Bear and Hound Dog by Elvis.

But of course I have a special spot in my heart for:

She forgets she didn't sing the chorus part with the Afterbeats and goes ahead and moves her mouth.

RE: A STAR IN BORN

There is much that I like in the Judy Garland/James Mason version, though as I said yesterday, I prefer it without the distracting restoration with stills and dialogue.

However, as an overall movie, I much prefer the original with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March.  It may not have the glitz and great musical numbers of the remake, but I think it's better storytelling.

Yes, as DRs JRand and Cillaliz mentioned yesterday there was an earthquake here. It was on the Ontario/Quebec border. And you could feel it in Montreal. I think it was a 5.0.  Nothing major here just everything shaking.

TOD:

I do like the rockabilly stuff like Jerry Lee Lewis and early Elvis.  And while I can listen to a Doo-Wop song or two, I think I would rather gouge out my ear canals than listen to an entire evening of it (as PBS seems to insist that I do so often...)

Thursday morning greetings!  Well, Synod Days are here and we're about to head to Lima.  Richard's leaving first, I'll go to a retirement reception and come back for Rob and we'll be about 2 hours behind Richard.  I will be E & T for the next couple of days, but will check in in the evenings.

I'm awake!  Another day at the All Shook Up camp.  I'll try not to beat the poor kids but yesterday, their retention level was below zero.  It was not pleasant.

Since it seems to be "the thing" to do:

"A Star is Born", restored, is the beez kneez!  Unrestored, it's mutilated.   The dialogue over stills is well worth tolerating for the treasures of the marvelous recording studio scene/marriage proposal and the complete "Lose That Long Face" sequence.

It's a win-win for that reason.

It is supposed to rain today. But I think it is supposed to stop before dinner. I hope so. If it does I will go see the fireworks tonight.

This year they are having fireworks this week (for St. Jean Baptiste Day) and next week (for Canada Day).
