At eleven this morning the phone rang and woke me up.  Unfortunately I was supposed to be somewhere at ten forty five.  Unbelievable !  I got ready in five minutes and out the door in ten.  We've met three Assistants so far.

Methinks perchance BK did *not* note my note noting my new address, as I am P,P-less, so to speak.  :)

BK did note the new address and that's where the package was sent.  Since several people on the other coast got theirs perhaps a chat with your postal office is in order.

NO, SHORTS PLEASE, WE'RE GENTLEMEN!

SF CHRONICLE

Quote
1960

July 8: Women in shorts, women in pants, and men in Bermudas - such things are not in the San Francisco tradition, Mayor George Christopher declared yesterday. "You'd be surprised," said the city's chief executive, "how many young ladies I've seen entering streetcars and buses wearing shorts. We can't reprimand them, we can't fine them, but it's just not the proper attire for San Francisco." What brought the subject up was a letter from J.C. Russell, an elderly like-minded San Franciscan who lives at 420 Serrano Drive. Russell, a longtime opponent of both shorts and slacks on women, reached the breaking point while taking his grandchildren on an outing to the zoo. "I noted there a woman of utterly horrendous architecture - clad in slacks," he said. He wrote the letter immediately upon his return home. Russell proposed a city tax on shorts and slacks. For ladies, said Russell, a proper charge would be $5 for weights up to 125 pounds; $10 at 125 pounds, and $50 from 150 pounds up. Men in Bermudas would pay more. A flat $100, Russell suggested in a letter to the Board of Supervisors. Mayor Christopher could not agree more. But the tax idea, he said, "might be unconstitutional." "I'm not a partisan of slack wearing or short pants wearing in downtown or in the neighborhoods," he said firmly. "That's the kind of attire that should be confined to the home."

der Brucer

The Randy Vicar and the Woman of Utterly Horrendous Architecture

This is very funny.  I would have expected the letter to be from an earlier date.  Now I feel old.;D  I have a male cousin who lives outside London and doesn't really approve of women wearing jeans.

It is going to be a really hot weekend here.

Surprisingly it's been really cool the last few days (like 16C yesterday, which is like 60F). But Monday is supposed to be a humidex of 40C (which is 90+++++).

Today's temps, only with the chill factor and lack of sun it feels like 50 degrees.

Great news, DR Elmore. On your dental condition and on getting "Promises." Now, how do you feel after your trip to the moon on gossamer medical things?

I still ache.

Keith has tons of work to do outside which only leave me to brush the burrs out of Sherlock's fur and to check him for fox tails.  This is a task I don't manage well with my right arm/hand and one that is extremely difficult to do with my right.  I have so little muscle in my shoulder and arm making it difficult and painful to pull the brush or comb through his fur, especially with burrs tangled in there.

I remember when he was still married and bashed Harrison Ford for having such a young female co-star.  He was never going to act so inappropriately.

Sherlock wasn't nearly as bad as yesterday.  Yesterday Keith had to brush him after I was done, today he won't.

Well, I did leave work early and I did go see a movie--TOY STORY 3.  While it won't replace my favorite Pixar film (that would still be WALL-E), it's still a fun and delightful movie.  I highly recommend, though I would suggest seeing the plain, ordinary 2-D version--there's really nothing about the 3-D that I thought was worth a $12 ticket.

And, yes, tears were shed...

And though KevinH may not be able to withstand the competition, we leave tomorrow for Wisconsin, so if I have internets access, I can post from such amazing locales as Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and/or Bismarck, North Dakota.   ;)

I love Coeur d'Alene.  It is so beautiful.

I'm finally done interviewing helper candidates - there were three possibilities and I went with the one with no ties to the show business - a former firefighter, very computer savvy, will be bringing Kritzerland out of the Middle Ages and into everything being done on the computer, and, most importantly, is not looking for another job.

After that, I had to address then ship ten packages - the word is out now about the new mix and suddenly people are getting off their ASSES and ordering - of course, the problem is there aren't that many left to order.

I was going to comment on the Perry Como song, one of my faves from the early 1960s, which is taken from from two 19th Century compositions; the original is "Espana," Chabrier's wonderful and brief tone poem salute to Spain, but the most likely source for the Perry Como song is Emile Waldteufel's Op. 236, "Espana Waltz,",based on Chabrier's themes. Waldteufel, whose most famous waltz is "The Skaters (Les Patineurs, Op. 183)," was the Parisian counterpart to Vienna's Johann Strauss.

Elmore, I love to read your posts.  Half the time I have no idea what you are talking about; but I love to read them.
