PIDDLE, TWIDDLE, AND RESOLVE
« on: May 02, 2004, 12:00:43 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, you've piddled the notes, you've twiddled the notes, and you've even resolved the notes, so now it is time to post until the cows come home.  They went out again late last night - damn them, damn them all to hell.

Just saw a promo for the "friends" finale.  Just can't get into it.  It hasn't been a "must see" for me for like 5 years.  I watch it when nothing ELSE is on.  But how many variations of six can you do?

When I first started posting...was frustrated that it wasn't most like a chat room...(having read like 200 posts and wanted to continue them)....just got more with the rhythms...and trying more to fit in.  Give me time.

Room question....which do most fear.  The Glenn Close remake of Lion In Winter....or the Meryl Street remake of Manchuriun Candidate?

LOL.....oh my wlajb - the play I just directed LOVING LUCY had Lucille Ball using just that phrase - "give me time...."

Just saw Cindy Williams on a rerun of MILLIONAIRE - smart girl.  And yes, MR BK, a production of PRISONER OF SECOND AVENUE with the two of you as Mel and Edna would be riot!

It has been 44 years - and when it was announced, I couldn't believe it, I was crushed....I cried.  And I blamed Lucille Ball for the divorce that tore my favorite tv couple apart.  For years for years and ever since, I have blamed her.

This play written by Phillip blue owl Hooser made me think...there wasn't anything else she could do, it wasn't her fault, she tried for years, but finally there was nothing else she could do.  At the end of the play she says....."After all of this, I still love him, but.....give me time...."

I love Lucy....I watch her and marvel still at her talent....she was surrounded by the BEST people...everything worked....  They started the show to keep their marriage together, and it eventually tore them apart.  But we still have it.  I still love Lucy.  :'(

OMG...right now it's a toss up.  But I guess the edge would go to MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE because it will be easier to screw up.

I don't fear Meryl so much as I do Denzel Washington (who I have liked a lot in other roles) - Washington has said he will not watch the original because there is nothing he can learn from it.  Sadly, that is probably true in the case of many of the people who are working on the new (not necessarily improved) MC.  Who is playing the Leslie Parrish role?

I think LION IN WINTER will be okay, because it has a strong script that will probably be adhered to...if they know what they're doing.  And Glenn was one of the best things in Mel's HAMLET.

That's a toss-up.  But the only one of the two I'm actually in danger of seeing is The Lion in Winter Redux, because of the presence of Patrick Stewart...but if I somehow manage to miss it, well, I won't lose sleep.

You know, the reason Hollywood continues pumping out remakes and sequels is that people are going to see them....

What am I doing up at this hour??? Sister's dog was going crazy, leaping at the glass door to the patio. Seems some hapless nocturnal bunny has fallen into the yard, and can't get out. Oh, well. We will wait 'til morn, and get a bunny trap, hope it doesn't have a heart attack, and whisk it to safety, before this canine plays Wild Kingdom with it... oy.

So I guess I'm talking to myselfff. That's how you know you crazy, you start to jabber.

Okay, then, by postmark deadline Monday, May 3, I'm sending in the WHOLE dang pack o' stuff for the New Yawk Musical Theatre Fest in September. It is a sort of juried Fringe Festival for new musicals, from what I gather. They select 18 pieces, and give them 6 performance dates during a 3-week period in a "Theatre District" theater - my guess is 99 seats, to comply with Equity blahblah. Ya also get a tech director, lighting designer and board op, a piano, front of house personnel (box office, house mgr, ushers), and what might be referred to as (yeah, right) "publicity" - one is responsible for one's own casting, direction, costumes/set, actors, musical director/other musicians - and, true to Fringe Theater - must be able to set up and strike in a very limited time.

Well, I am the Queen of Low Budget, and have successfully Fringed several times, so what the hell, go for it.

What'll I do, if they actually choose MY piece??? I would have to go to NYC for 10 days in June, and cast that sucker, that's for sure. Oy, hard enough to cast the reading in Seattle...

THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE; after the terrifying SOUTH PACIFIC, Miiss Close can never scare me again!  LION IN WINTER could be interesting; before the film with O'Toole and Hepburn, it was a play with Robert Preston, Rosemary Harris, Christopher Walker and James Rado (co-author of HAIR).  Wish I'd seen that!
