I seem to be doing nothing but sleeping this weekend. That's a good thing.

I have no news. That can be a good thing.

On that note, TTFN.

I want to take a walk, but the wind is about 33 mph right now and I don't think it would be a lot of fun

I feel a little left out, not being at home while the rest of the family is getting together, but if I had gone, I would have gotten no rest and lots of stress, so I'm glad I didn't go, but it's a little sad nonetheless

And I see that the EMMY awards are on this evening.

Anybody planning to watch them?

I'll be watching...for the most part.  I also have cat-watching/feeding duty for a friend and I need to return Larry's laptop (hopefully, the recording of South Pacific worked!), and I have another thing to record at the same time, but it should all work out. :)

For those that might be interested. I came across yesterday that AMAZON is having a $5.00 MP3 downlaod sale. I was able to replace a couple of cds that seemed to have disappeared from my collection.

Pal Joey (Studio 1950)
Paint Your Wagon
Fiddler On The Roof (Alfred Molina)
Assassins (Broadway)
Pacific Overtures (Broadway Revival)

and one that I think everyone who enjoyed Billy Barnes' LA will like this one:
The Billy Barnes Revue with many of the the same performers in BB's LA

Pal Joey & Paint Your Wagon (and also original casts of Finian's Rainbow, Brigadoon, South Pacific, Carousel) are what I like to call "bootleg" releases. But they are not really. Their copyright has expired in Europe and there is a company in England that are re-releasing them. I believe they do not have the master tapes, but use other sources to produce their releses.

Other $5.00 Broadway downloads are
Big River
Nine (Broadway revival)
Billy Elliott (Original cast. Not sure if it means London or Broadway)
State Fair 1945 Radio Broadcast
Marigold (London cast) Never heard of this one before
Grey Gardens (Broadway Cast)
Little Mermaid (Broadway)
9 to 5 (Broadway)
Monsters Inc (Film)
The Fantasticks (Off-Broadway Original cast)
One Touch of Venus (Broadway)
Fiorello! (Not sure if this is the "bootleg" or not but does not have the Capitol or Broadway Angel Logo on the cover)

Some related Vocal albums
Shirley Temple at the movies
Nancy Wilson & Cannonball Addlerly
Lena Horn (Stormy Weather)
Sarah Vaughn (After Hours)
Nancy Wilson & George Shearing (The Swingin's Mutual)
Hoagy Sings Carmichael

Several Ultra Lounge cds

and for $5.94 you can get William Shatners The Transformed Man

Happy Hunting (Not the musical but good luck in finding something you might like.)

What a coinkydink!  I just got a $5 credit for Amazon's MP3s!  Thanks for the info, Michael!

I've done two-thirds of the liner notes for the new show release.  It had such an interesting gestation and while I can't be verbose about it, I at least wanted to touch on all its salient points.

Well, my sister just called.  She asked if after I feed my friend's cats, could I come over and help move some beauty bark. :P

Fortunately, I don't need to come over now, so I have time to take a shower first.

Just finished watching SOLITARY MAN w/Michael Douglas.

Excellent film.  Douglas is always good at playing a "loser".

Oh, I did and I will likely need it next weekend too.  I am taking a three day weekend.  I may go to the lake for a day and see my parents. I haven't seen them since the third of July.  But only for a day.

So, my email exchange with Don Black.

It's quite possible that we might cast an African American as Joe Gillis in Sunset Blvd.  There is a scene in the show between Betty and Joe when they are discussing the best way to write a movie and Betty sings "No one takes a black friend to a restaurant".  It was really bugging me after auditions yesterday that that line might be an issue.  In fact, such an issue that it was in some of the music I chose for callbacks on Wednesday.

So, I looked up Don Black's info on the 'net, and emailed him my dilemma.  This morning I got an email back from him understanding our issue and he sent me another lyric.  That was really exciting.

In the score, there are alternate lyrics here and there, which surprised me.  But what surprised me more was that there wasn't an alternate lyric for that line.  I realize that in the time period of the show, that was normal, but seeing as though the contender is an African American, I felt weird about it.  It was either going to be an unwanted laugh, or end up being offensive.

Oh, the new line  - Make sure you don't criticise the FBI

It will take a little shoehorning with the notes, but it will work fine.

Just came back from seeing an adaptation a friend of mine did of "A Confederacy of Dunces" at his theatre here in Atlanta. It was great!! We went with Greg's sister and her husband and our niece, who is in town this week. She teaches at USC but came to visit her uncle, who is ill. He's on a side of the family we don't know, but vibes to him all the same!
