SIMPLE AS PIE
« on: November 11, 2010, 12:28:01 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were simple as cake and a piece of pie, and now it is time for you to post until the simple cows come home.

The end of the year project has begun at work so my time is winding down. I'll be off from December 2 and will return to the office on January 3rd.

Good morning, all! I did not sleep well last night, and I blame it on the recording anxiety today. It's a full day of the beautiful Miss Rebecca Luker and, at 3:30, six talented gentlemen to sing backup with her on "When the Right One Comes Along." She also records, among others, two of Herbert's biggest hits, "Kiss Me Again" and "Indian Summer," which is a posthumous song cobbled together from a piano solo by Herbert.

Beyond that, I'm waiting for some funds to arrive to pay for the Ohio trip and thinking about next week's work schedule: I have to see my barber, arrange a Fed Ex pickup for these cartons, schedule some editing sessions with Mr Skip Kennon, see a couple of things and get out of town.

My fave 1970s soundtrack has t be the first STAR WARS; I cannot recall any film where the music so grabbed my attention from the first notes.

I am intrigued by the upcoming Kritzerland release!

TOD:

Star Wars
True Grit - although that might be a 1969 LP, and it was the score not a soundtrack, I think.
Ice Castles

DR Cillaliz, whenever you think you're having a bad day think of the people on that adrift Carnival cruise ship!

And speaking of that cruise ship. My sister was freaking out because her bestfriend is currently on a Carnival cruise and last time they had had some problem. But alas luckily they are not on the ship with the fire.  I can't believe all the people are eating spam!

TOD:

AN UNMARRIED WOMAN
STAVISKY
THE STING

Odd Thing One:  As many times as I've listened to the STAVISKY soundtrack, I've never seen the film.

Odd Thing Two:  The Joplin ragtime music used for THE STING is wrong for the period.  Every time I watch the movie, there's a momentary shock when I'm reminded that it takes place in the 30s.  Still, it works exceedingly well...

Thursday morning greetings!  Richard is off to help the Honor Guard with Veterans Day observations and Rob and I are putting the finishing touches on preparations for tonight's family gathering.  I will be in and out here until mid-afternoon and then probably E & T until later this evening.

It's about time to head uptown to the Academy. I've packed my lunch, recharged my cell phone, updated the contact sheet, and collected the music for today and tomorrow.

DR Jose, our producer, who's excellent but a bit too intense at times, has put her foot down about no visitors to the session. I'm hoping we'll begin recording the men at 3:30, but I have no idea how long the session will take. I'm estimating 45 minutes.

I've been E&T for the past week, so I only just heard about Michelle. *Weeping softly.* We've lost too many wonderful people to this horrible disease...

"Toonfull" was the first Varese Sarabande album I ever bought - within 2 years my cassette/CD rack was a mass of maroon. Her renditions of "Heigh-ho," "Disneyland," "Waiting for Life to Begin," and "What Do I Do Now" are on heavy rotation in my mental soundtrack.
