DR Jane - When I did A Chorus Line in Houston at TUTS, I went to Kenny & Ziggy's...

However, I preferred Katz's Deli in Montrose since "Katz's Never Kloses".

I put up my Christmas kitsch decor today, also.

For the first time, I have a blue Christmas tree. It was on sale at Shopko...they had blue ones and lime green ones.

DR JohnG - Was Buz & Ned's Real Barbecue the barbecue place in Richmond you were thinking of trying out?  Buz & Ned's is good barbecue, however, their "pulled" items are not North Carolina-style (vinegar-based sauce) which seems to the style of most Richmonders prefer. I usually get their Baby-Back and Spare Pork Ribs, or their Beef Ribs (which, imho, are the best thing on their menu).

DR JohnG - The "Chicharron de Queso" made me giggle. I'd say it was a "Frico Crisp". ;) -Although, I still remember Natalie Dupree making a "cheese cracker" on her PBS show. She simply sliced slices off a brick of cheddar cheese, placed them on a non-stick baking sheet, then baked them.  -A true "cheese crisp".

I went to see the stage version of WHITE CHRISTMAS this afternoon.

And how was it, DR TCB?

I must say that it was truly a wonderful production.  My dear friend Sharry played Martha, the Geenral's assistant innkeeper.  And since I knew that it was going to snow on the audience during the final number, I was able to check out the amazement on the faces of the audience members.

As much as I do love that finale, I usually start crying when they sing "White Christmas" in the opening scene. ::)

So...

Yesterday morning, ConEd finally finished re-wiring the building next door. Alas, when they cleared - cut - the old wires out, they managed to nick one of the Time-Warner cables.  Thankfully, Time-Warner was on the scene an hour later, and got service restored to our part of the grid over the course of the past 24 hours.

And speaking of crying...

I finally(!) saw my first live production of Amahl and the Night Visitors earlier today.  It was presented by The Little Orchestra Society at Avery Fisher Hall.

The orchestra was set up on the front part of the stage, and the house set was on a platform behind the orchestra. It was a very well-done production. Not too bare bones, not too slick. Just home-y enough, in a good sense. The humorous aspects weren't too overplayed, and the miracle was simple and beautifully simple.  It just happened - like all good miracles should.

My favorite moment was right at the end as Amahl was waving good-bye to his Mother and his house... A number of kids in the audience started waving back at him.  -And, yes, that really made me cry. ;)

Two show day was great.  I must say, in the 5 years we've done this show, this year is the best.  Not only on stage, but off as well.  The 80+ people seem to get along well, and play together well.  Characters are solid, the singing is good, the band is great (2 keys, bass, drums, 2 violins, 1 flute - no horn this year, and man it's better!!!)  We close tomorrow, but I'm kinda sad because we're having such fun.  Usually I can't wait to finish, but this year's production could run some more and I'd be happy.

Sometimes you can find Clove Gum at DOLLAR TREE and at BIG LOTS. We used to sell it at Bi-Mart when I worked there.
