Watching "Best Little Whorehouse" for the first time since it came out. It has aged better than "Annie," which came out the same summer, but it's really not very good. It seems to forget it's a musical halfway through it. And what dancing there is is too amateurish.

They just finished singing "Hard Candy Christmas" and I realized what's wrong with the movie: The director hates women. Or at least he is not attracted to them. Yes the director was gay, but does that mean he has to make the women skanky and stagey and ugly. The boys meanwhile are all pretty (too pretty to be football players) and shown to their best advantage. Only Dolly for the most part and Lois Nettleton come off with any grace.

Well...

As I was waiting for my bus, it became all too obvious that they had oversold it. Again. There were some raised voices, some cussing, and some "dangerous" looks, but the passengers eventually got on the bus - myself included - and headed towards the Holland Tunnel. -And it turned out they had another bus leaving a half-hour later to take care of the "overflow".

And then... The bus apparently hit something while driving down the NJ Turnpike. -I heard a "bump", but to my ears, it just sounded like some of the luggage down below had shifted.  Of course, some people kept talking about how they had thought the bus had hit something... And then there was this buzzing sound... And then the bus pulled over at one of the rest areas...

It turned out that nothing was wrong with the outside of the bus. However, the driver did need to top off the coolant tank. Alas, the buzzing sound did not stop. Of course, people on the bus started panicking - "Oh, we're never gonna get to Richmond!" "I know he hit something!" "We're running so far behind schedule already!"... Well, it turned out that one of the passengers had hit one of the "help" buttons - like those flight attendant call signals on airplanes. Once the driver de-activated that, the buzzing stopped, and we continued our way down south.

The bus was scheduled to leave at 3:30pm. We left a little before 4:00pm.  The bus was scheduled to arrive in Richmond anywhere between 9:30pm and 11:00pm - all traffic-permitting.  We arrived at 9:55pm.  -Of course, some of the "panic-ers" had already called ahead to tell their "pick-ups" that they wouldn't be getting in until midnight. Well... I'm hoping their rides have picked them up by now. ;)

DR Jennifer - Christopher Tierney suffered - at the very least - some broken ribs and internal bleeding. That sounds serious to me.

Did he break his pelvis? I think that is common in fall like that.

Quite a story.

I was just amazed at the lack of "geography" some of the passengers possessed. -Or rather did not.  As the bus passed DC - with the Washington Monument in the distance - some people still thought we were at least four hours from Richmond.

Who knows? -The "official statements" are not listing any of the injuries now.

I'm just amazed that they're only canceling tomorrow's matinee. -Will that really provide enough time to institute and "practice" the new safety procedures?

Dear Jose , that's the one, I bought vanilla and almond.   Our Sur la Table is at the Grove, much further for me now.

Which of the vanillas do you like/buy? Madagascar Bourbon, Mexican or Tahitian? Or Nielsen-Massey's Vanilla Blend? ;)

Glad you made it to Richmond and that whatever went bump in the night didn't stop the bus from continuing on the journey

Thank You, DR Cillaliz - I have a feeling that if the bus had truly hit something, we would have felt it in addition to just hearing it. -I'm also sure that with all the truckers on the road, that they would have signaled for the bus to pull over sooner if they notice any damage.

The weather in Chicago is good for flying as is the weather in Salt Lake City, yet Bryan & Kate's Delta flight has been canceled.  The connecting flight in Utah is still flying.  It seems Delta doesn't have a plane.  Bryan & Kate have been rescheduled for tomorrow on an earlier flight that leaves them with a three hour delay in Utah so we still have to pick them up at 11:00PM.

I am not a happy camper.  In the good old days they would have been put on a competing airline since it is the airlines fault.

Delta and NW merged so a lot of the Delta planes come out of Minneapolis.  they've had lots and lots of snow so I'm sure it's impacting flights everywhere

I should have thought to check the weather in Minneapolis, thank for clearing that up.

It has turned out for the best.  We needed more time to get ready while taking advantage of not having Yogi here and the airline extended their return home a day.  We still get them for four days and now they have a return flight at 1:00PM instead of 6:00AM.

I hope they aren't delayed again tomorrow.  I always feel bad when Bryan ends up spending his birthday (23rd) on an airplane.

DR Jane - Make sure that your DS Craig tells the gate agents that it's his birthday. He may get an upgrade. Or at least an extra bag of peanuts or cookies! At the very least, the full can of Coke! ;)

DR Jane - And be thankful that Craig is not trying to fly to Europe right now. My friend, David, was supposed to fly to Hungary last Friday. His flight was cancelled due to the snow in London and in northern Europe. He's supposed to fly out tomorrow, but, alas, since British Airways is dealing with so many stranded passengers, no one has received any further confirmation or information. -Even their website and phone lines have been continuously overwhelmed. Alas, going by some of the other reports from the other airlines, it looks like he might be stranded in NYC for Christmas.

I know it isn't where he wants to be, but there are worse places to be stranded than NYC at Christmas ;)
