Good morning, all! I slept late and here I am. I have to be in midtown by noon for the Encores! luncheon, an event occurring three times a year before the Saturday matinee of an Encores! production. Lasy year I managed to miss all three luncheons and the first one this year before the matinee of BELLS ARE RINGING. I am looking forward to see who all shows up.

When I return, I have to type up my Victor Herbert notes from yesterday's NYPL trip before I can no longer read my writing. This morning, vacuuming and tidying up.

First, coffee.

As for the Topic of the Day...

I've never broken a bone. -Never had a cavity either. However, I have had stitches once, and my parents did take me to the emergency room when I was nine years old after my right eye decided to catch the fly ball that my baseball glove missed.

TOD:

I've been very lucky broken bones-wise. (Knock Wood!)

The only incident happened over 20 years ago.  I was coming out of my bank in Calabasas and fell flat on my face.  Turns out that the brick step was broken, and that's what caused me to fall.

I stuck my head back into the bank, and shouted "You should get your step fixed.  A person could get killed."  And, that was it.

Although my pinkie (on the hand that broke my fall) was slightly sore, I forgot about the incident...until a week later when I got a postcard from an insurance company.  "Please call us about your accident," it said.

I'm thinking: "Did I sideswipe a car or something and didn't know it?"

Cutting to the chase: It was the bank's insurance company.  They insisted that I go to their doctor.  The doctor did an x-ray of my hand.  Turns out I had a fractured pinkie.

The insurance company wound up paying me $3000 for my trouble.

Wow. When I went over to turn in the skates, the guy looked at me holding my wrist and said, "We're not responsible."

Ben - Have you discussed why you don't e-file your New York State return?

(If so, I must have missed your explanation.  Could you say it again?  Thanks if you can.)

OK...

Time to get ready for numbers to 251-430 - although, apparently, there are a number of no-shows due to travel-related issues and/or illnesses. I could have a longer dinner break today.

TOD: When I was 6, I broke my wrist falling from a swing set we had in the backyard. This was one of the old-fashioned sets made from heavy metal. Over the years, after we kids stopped using the set, my dad cut down the metal to use for other projects, but he left the top part, which we played on as a kind of balance beam. Five years after the first break, I fell off that swing set and broke the same wrist.

Hi, Fred,

I don't e-file for NY state because I'm cheap and annoyed that I can't do it for free. I refuse to pay $15 or more for the "privilege" of paying my taxes. I can do it for free through the Federal IRS Web site but I don't fit the qualifications for free e-filing for New York State. I'm too old (or not old enough, when I'm 65 I can do it for free) and I make too much money. I have extremely simple taxes and I won't pay money to someone to have them done and then pay another fee to file. I also don't use tax prep software since my taxes are simple enough that I can do them myself. I download the forms from NY State, fill them in, print out two copies and mail one off to Albany.

For Laura and Cilla:  The SUV was still there yesterday morning at 4:45 a.m. but the crucifix was gone. I don't know if the owner removed it or if it was stolen.

Otherwise, it was a relatively good day of auditions and callbacks. Oh, and ribs. :)

Oh Jose, sorry about the broken ribs.

Stealing a crucifix just seems wrong.
