I found out today that my former boss has cancer.  It's a rare and aggressive form of thyroid cancer.  I wasn't particularly fond of him, but no one deserves that, so I wrote a nice post on his caring bridge page

Taking the high road is good, DR CILLA LIZ.

We use the canned roast beef and Reames to make beef and noodles which is good too.

Maybe Little Ricky wants to see the early morning news  on TV.  He might be worried about the Middle East or gasoline prices.

Any other shows that should have been recorded then that we have missed?

There may have beena few flops that might have been recorded. The most serious loss besides LOVE LIFE and WHERE'S CHARLEY? is the fantastic Villa-Lobos flop MAGDALENA.
But we did get a recording of it with Judy Kaye. Quite lush and lovely.

You asked if there were any shows then that were not recorded because of the strike. I answered. I love Judy Kaye, who's a dear friend, but I would have killed to hear Irra Petina in the original cast!

Dreary-looking (but not dreary) Tuesday here in Oakland Ca.  The overcast (mostly high fog) is supposed to burn off and we should have a spectacular afternoon.

Are there any fans of "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines (or, How I Flew From London to Paris in 25 Hours and 11 Minutes)" here?

The marvelous Ron Goodwin score (including the wonderful title song) has long been a favorite of mine.  It was issued on the 20th Century-Fox label back in 1965.

Today, Intrada (a CD label) has issued a 2-CD original soundtrack recording of the complete score in stereo from original scoring masters.  It's quite THE thrill for me.

Warner Brothers Archive is releasing the silent filmNOAH'S ARK on DVD this month. DR MBarnum, there must be several body builders you'd like to date in this film. Or have you already met them cruising the retirement centers?

I knew there was some reason I remembered liking this film.

Back from various and sundried doings.  I had a salad at the Studio Cafe.  Then I went to the mail place where I picked up some mail but no packages.  Since I was expecting an amazon package I asked twice and was twice told there was nothing for me.  I went home, went to amazon, and sure enough the package had been delivered an hour before my arrival.  I called the UPS Store and gave them a rather large piece of my mind, since they do this sort of thing way too much - just too damn lazy to actually check to see if I'm right.  So, I had to drive back there and get it, then did some banking, then went to the AT&T store, where I picked up my new 36 cell tower - this is something AT&T is giving its customers for free - and it supposedly boosts cell signal in the home.  Since I get lousy reception here it will be very helpful, if it works.  It's sitting there waiting for me to start it up, but to do so I have to shut down the modem and the router and then power it all up and that frightens me.  However, since it's early and I can get people on the phone, I guess now would be a good time to try it.

All right, I've been bold and have done it.  And I'm back on the Internet, so that part worked fine.  Now it takes ninety minutes or so for the thing to configure itself and then we'll see how it works.

I didn't even know we had a day

I certainly haven't heard about any of these "bridge" events

Have I been living in a cave?  Is this common knowledge?

LOL.  In Romania they called it Romanian Women's Day and the gifts were more in line with Valentine's Day which they didn't celebrate.  A couple of years later I began reading about International Women's Day in Europe with an expanded meaning.  Now it seems American has joined the bandwagon.

I knew there was a day, didn't know when and had no idea about the bridges.   It's cold and snowing and when it's slick out a bridge is the worst place to be.

But if you meet a guy on a bridge your connection, or whatever it was, will be stronger. ;)

Elmore - I always mean to ask you this -- how do you know that the scores are wrong?

If you never heard the original how do you know what it is supposed to sound like?

It's a gift! Not to be flippant,

You aren't being flippant, just stating a fact.  :)
I wish I had a fraction of your talent.

On this International Women’s Day, we should all celebrate the fantastic Women of HHW!  Y'all are a wonderfully accomplished group!

AWWWW!  :)

Laura - i believe that where my parents live, anyone over 50 is seen as eligible to use the Senior Center.

Well, that's depressing.

*And as for the audition call I played yesterday... -And I'm glad that some other "Professionals" are starting to speak up about this matter... -There are some people making a lot of money off "innocent" kids by making them think that taking ONE class with a "Master Teacher" will automatically guarantee them a job on Broadway. The amount of disillusion and the resulting disappointment I witnessed yesterday was both depressing and infuriating.

Such a shame.

Wow, it activated itself not in ninety minutes but in eighteen minutes.  Suddenly my iPhone, which normally has no more than one bar in the house, has four bars.  Amazing!

I went to work and went to my 10:00 hearing, which was really a 9:00 hearing and thanks to Ricky waking me up early, I got to work early and made it to the hearing, lol.   My client, however, didn't feel the need to go.

That doesn't sound good for your client.

I'm glad you are feeling better.

Everyone got quite a laugh out of it, which is why I remember.  It was probably intentional, I've been waiting since then to join and will do so in July when I turn 50.  It may not help for everything, but heck, I'll take a discount wherever I can get one these days.

I have one for the discounts at hotels.  Often the rate is better than AAA.
