Spent a couple of hours making room in my closet for the 10 new items I bought this week.  In addition to removing all the baggie britches, I found some things that I can wear again, after many, many years  ;D

Isn't that fun!? Congratulations!
That's great.

I bought the cooktop a few years ago. The original one was literally shocking me when I cooked. And I got a new oven back then, too.

that's how I ended up with a new stove a few year ago - put the pot on the burner and got a jolt that I felt in my fillings

I've also been dealing with some Bank of America stuff - they have, of late, become a little relentless about calling and offering new services - the problem is, they call and don't tell you what the call's about, so you get the impression there's something wrong when there isn't.  It happened two weeks ago and it happened this morning and I am going to have it stopped if I have to go all the way to the top of the BofA food chain.  I called back this gal who called and all you get, relentlessly, is her machine, which tells you to leave a number, the name of your business (a good indication that this isn't really about a problem) and she says she'll get right back to you.  Not.  I am now on a CRUSADE!!!

take a look in your banking materials - by Federal law they have to have provided you with a "privacy statement" -  in that statement there is a 1-800 number that you can call to "opt out" of ALL sales calls

If you do not "opt out" they are allowed to call you because of their existing relationship with you

I do believe the crusade has been successful, at least for me, and I recommend anyone else who is with BofA call and do exactly what I did.  I got to the "escalations" department, got a great gal, and she immediately found the person who'd called me and left the message and then never called back.  That person will be spoken to, and I now have instructions on my account that I am never to be called, save for the fraud department should there ever actually be a problem.  This gal was great and she made me laugh when she said she was going to "reach out" to Lena, the gal who made the call this morning.  She's also going to recommend to the highest level that any time a message is left it HAS to say there is no problem with your account, this is a solicitation phone call.  If she gets that through then all this will be much better.

Are Jeanne, BK, RLP, Mike Barnum, JMK, TCB, Jed & Ann, in any danger of Tsunami related disasters?

Thanks, DRs Vixmom and John G!  It was especially fun when I modeled a couple of dresses and Richard said, "I always liked that one!"  We got a big laugh over the shoulder pads in one of my suit jackets from the early '90s.

Checking the news DR Sam seems to have high waves.  I expect she is at work and I don't know how close to the ocean she is.

DR's JMK & MBarnum should be fine, as should Bruce.  It would have to be an extremely big tsunami to reach DR Jeanne and that isn't expected.

My guess, DR Ron is far enough inland.

As for DRs George, TCB, Ann & Jed my personal belief is they will be fine.  TCB is close to the water but I can't find anything that says his area had to evacuate.  I'll search a bit more for news.

Nice kitchen, Laura. What's going to be the first meal prepared in it?

Probably oatmeal.

But I have to get the stovetop hooked up again.

That happened quicker than I expected.

can't wait to see the sink.   And I've never had a workman tell me I paid him too much.  I did have a client say I didn't charge enough.  I told him I do accept donations if he felt that he should pay more.  He didn't take me up on that

LOL-sorry.  Our dishwasher sparked big time.  Since a dishwasher isn't a necessity it was a long while before we got a new one.

Very close indeed.  Maybe she didn't go to work until she loaded up the car first.

The plumbers are a "Plumber and Son" company and are neighbors. When I talked to the wife (who answers the phone and does the bookkeeping), I told her how much the company wanted for the tearout. She suggested the son might be willing to do it as a side job. Nice kid.

DR Laura I'm convinced that the tear out is where they rip people off (not your plumber but the company).  They wanted a crazy amount for mine.  It turned out to be a very quick and easy job that I did with the help of Edith's husband. Glad you found someone to do it cheaper

When we tore out our kitchen it was a big job.  Fortunately we found a contractor who did it for a reasonable amount, including carting everything, except what we could donate to Habitat for Humanity, away.  It paid off for him in the long run.  We liked him so much and he was extremely neat that we have used it for other work around the house.

DR Jane, I got my countertop at Home Depot.  Their tear out charge is calculated by the foot, I can't remember the rate.  my tear out was just loosening some screws, and sawing one little piece off and lifting the counter out.  That was literally it and we did it in about 15 minutes.   I think they wanted something like $500-700 to do that.

Hello, everyone.

Reporting in. No tsunamis in my 'hood. But, as I live in a predominately Japanese neighborhood, I suspect many nearby families are worried and grieving.

Vibes to all.

Mine was old tile. He spent about three hours prying them off one by one. Plus hauling it away and cleaning it all up.
