And Miss Austen was a minister's daughter.

And the greatest manipulator of the English language since Shakespeare. She is the Mozart of literature.
And the greatest influence on Trollope's writing, which is why I like his work, too.

I won't treat him as rudely as Ms Griffin gets kicked on this board by some folk, but Trollope is a writer who eludes me. And I've tried.

Don't know which ones you've tried, but his work is largely tales of love and money, and he did cite Austen as one of his favorites. I know that doesn't mean he will appeal to those who love Austen, but I found his work a good descendant.

Am fading fast. I need plenty of sleep, so I'm off to bed.

Night, all.

The sycophantic announcer on Dateline in her blow by blow account of today's wedding talked about "the future king and queen of England" kissing on the balcony. Given that Prince Charles is waiting for his moment, William may never get to the throne! And she wouldn't be queen anyway, I do believe. He could die before he's crowned.

I preferred Kathy's comment that it wasn't a very sincere kiss and her debates with the others on Pippa and Harry.

I want a tiara.  Of course I can't think of one place to wear it, but it would be nice to have one :)

Well, Prince Harry is still available.  Go marry him and maybe the Queen would "loan" you one!

I'm 11 days younger than his mother....I don't think so :)

I'm sorry Elmore, I know you like her humor, but I find her very offensive.

Of course she's offensive. Do you think I'm watching her for her gentility?

LOL, No of course not. :)

I thought Ms Griffin liked being treated rudely....new material for her ;)

As for the coverage of the Royal Wedding...

Katie Couric's "Meet the Fockers" comment - WHAT?!?!?!

Otherwise, it's been fun reading how much more invested the American audiences - and news agencies - were in the Royal Wedding than their British counterparts. -At least in regards to the "simple kiss". NBC showing it in slow-motion was just so not necessary.

DR Jane - From what I've read, if you just wanted to sit back and watch the ceremony, the coverage from the BBC - and BBC America - was the one to watch/record/DVR.

DR JohnG - YUM!!! Ice Cream Sandwiches!!!!!!

'wichcraft - which is Tom Colicchio's "fast food" chain here in NYC - serves ice cream sandwiches. They have some great combinations: Oatmeal Cookies with Blueberry Ice Cream, Homemade Graham Crackers with Caramel Ice Cream, Sugar Cookies with Strawberry Ice Cream, Peanut Butter Cookies with Malted Chocolate Ice Cream, etc., etc., etc.

And then there are the behemoth's the Jacques Torres carries. They use his Chocolate Chip Cookies and fill them with a nice selection of ice creams: "Wicked" Chocolate (spicy), Coconut, Salted Caramel, Cinnamon, etc.

YUM! YUM! YUM!

Happy Birthday, Vixter.  Now that you're 18, it's time to do something reckless and insane, just to prove you're an adult.  ;)

Ignore that man, darling - he lives in the northwest and the lack of sun makes him say silly things

Did anyone else's morning paper have the pathetic ad for ATLAS SHRUGGED with the actually hilarious "pull quotes" that basically said stuff like "It's a movie"?

The New York Times finally posted their REVIEW today. ::)

In other news...

My trips back up to NYC was, well... Interesting.

About an hour outside of DC, there was some sort of traffic snarl due to some construction. The bus driver pulled off the main highway, took some local roads and worked his way around the construction zone. By the time we arrived at the Delaware Welcome Center, we were back on schedule for the rest of the trip. And then once we pulled off the New Jersey Turnpike to enter the Holland Tunnel, well... That's when it got interesting.

Tomorrow I have to be at a registration table for the Barstool Open.  It's sort of a kick off to Historic Preservation Week.  A number of bars create their own putt putt golf holes. Then teams of 4 register and play the "course" going to each bar to play a hole.  It raises money for the commission and apparently is a lot of fun.  I've never done it and probably won't tomorrow...well, unless it really looks like fun./   There are prizes for the winning golfers and the winning bar for the best hole.

More rain....the upside of all our rain and mostly cool weather is that the tulip bulbs I didn't get around to planting until the very beginning of April are starting to come up!   I didn't think I'd see them this year.
